The character of the Bull Devil King has no prototype in the early versions of Journey to the West, he belongs to the original character of Wu Cheng'en, and he is also a very powerful and unpredictable monster.

He is also the only old face who has witnessed the growth of Sun Wukong on the way to the scriptures, and has been close but eventually turned against him. However, the question also came, no matter what, the Bull Demon King did not deliberately obstruct the study of the scriptures, why did he eventually attract the siege of the gods?

The character of the Bull Demon King is indeed different, and in the eyes of Sun Wukong, he can also be called a big brother!

Before Sun Wukong made a big fuss in the Heavenly Palace, there were not many descriptions of the Bull Demon King, only that including Sun Wukong, there were a total of seven Demon Kings worshipping, and the Bull Demon King was revered as the eldest brother.

Under normal circumstances, those who can be the boss are either strong or older. However, in the book "Journey to the West", under normal circumstances, a long life span means a great skill. After all, ordinary people have to cross the robbery every five hundred years, and the Jade Emperor crosses the robbery once every 129,600 years:

"Since childhood, I have endured 1,750 years of suffering, and each plague should be 129,600 years."

This is also the Buddha laughing at Sun Wukong, how many years have you lived, how dare you rob the Jade Emperor throne that has lived for more than 200 million years and has been robbing since the time of the dinosaurs?

You must know that these demon kings are not immortal, and soon after the worship, Sun Wukong's soul is not hooked by the black and white impermanence of the underground government, and the life expectancy is three hundred and forty-two years old. It can be seen from this that several other demon kings could not escape this fate, because Sun Wukong had hooked the book of life and death, and had also been an official in the heavenly court and had eaten peaches, so he survived five hundred years of heavenly calamity.

Among these worship brothers, they also survived the heavenly calamity, and there was only one Bull Demon King left, and he had no right to eat the peach. The ginseng fruit is not ripe, even if it is ripe, it will not be his turn. Not to mention the golden cicada meat, he was not blessed. However, of the several brothers who were worshipped, he was the only one who survived, which shows that he was really powerful.

Of course, some people will give examples, such as having lived for 1,200 or 300 years, they will even think of using the method of locking the door to trap Sun Wukong and Qingfeng Mingyue, these two boys, maybe these two are wise and foolish.

Two

But what is interesting is that Sun Wukong worships with the Bull Demon King and others, and the method of ranking is not about skill, or about old age, but about height.

At The Horn Mountain, Sun Wukong was extremely excited when he learned from the land mountain god that the little demon in the Fire Cloud Cave was actually the son of the big brother Bull Demon King:

"The Bull Demon King once married seven brothers with Old Sun, usually five or six Demon Kings, but some old Sun was born small, so he called the Bull Devil King the eldest brother."

In Sun Wukong's eyes, his big cow brother is still quite reliable, not only big, but also trustworthy. Even if the two have not been in contact for more than five hundred years, it will not affect the feelings between them, and even Sun Wukong has packed tickets to pig eight precepts and sand monks:

"Brothers rest assured, there is no need to think about it anymore, Master will never hurt his life, and the goblin is related to the old grandson."

In fact, the Bull Demon King was not optimistic about this little brother, after all, Sun Wukong had been serving a sentence under the Five Elements Mountain for five hundred years, and Big Brother Niu had not thought of going to see him. It's not because I'm afraid of being implicated, you know, during the Battle of the Flame Mountain, the Bull Demon King himself said that he once went to meet the Eight Precepts of the Pig and the Sand Monk:

"I smelled that Tang Monk was waiting on that road, his second apprentice Pig Essence and third disciple Sha LiuJing, and when I was a youkai, I also met him."

Even the two Pig Eight Precepts and the Sand Monk who violated the Heavenly Rules and were degraded by the Jade Emperor had all been met by him. Even the Hydra who stole the Buddha's treasure and was being wanted, he rushed to call him a brother. Why are you afraid of going to the Five Elements Mountain to see the imprisoned Sun Wukong and thus being implicated?

It can be seen that either the former Sun Wukong broke the heart of the old cow, or the old cow really did not have this heart.

Three

Moreover, Sun Wukong was crushed on the Five Elements Mountain, and the Bull Demon King knew the cause and effect, and when they met again, he said:

"I heard that you made trouble in the Heavenly Palace, and were pressurized by the Buddha at the foot of the Five Elements Mountain..."

The Bull Demon King's skills are indeed powerful, and he is also ranked in the West Niu He Zhou, where there are many monsters, and it is no wonder that he does not take Sun Wukong to heart!

His sphere of influence needless to say, it has been said before, including his prestige, such as when Sun Wukong let other brothers also be called holy, the Bull Demon King did not speak, they did not dare to act rashly.

In terms of ability alone, the Bull Devil King is also one of the few monsters in the book who fight alone with Sun Wukong and do not fall behind. In the entire "Journey to the West", the Bull Demon King has shot a total of four times, and there are three direct confrontations with Sun Wukong.

In fact, what Sun Wukong is most proud of is also the extra skill taught by Bodhi Grandmaster in the middle of the night - seventy-two changes. In the whole book, only three people can do this skill, one is Sun Wukong, one is the Erlang God, and the other is the Bull Demon King.

Although the Erlang God's art of change has always suppressed Sun Wukong's head, it is easy to be recognized, such as when the Erlang God and Sun Wukong bet on changes, Sun Wukong can see it:

"The great saint turned into a fish, swimming along the water, and suddenly saw a bird, like a green harrier, the hair piece is not green; like a heron, there is no wisp on the top; like an old stork, and the legs are not red..."

Similarly, the Erlang God can easily see through Sun Wukong's art of change:

"Erlang was not there, and when he saw the sound of the water, he saw a snake throwing out, and he recognized it as the Great Sage..."

Although the Bull Demon King seems to have been suppressed by Sun Wukong when he seems to change, sun Wukong has not been able to recognize the Eight Precepts of the Pig that the Bull Devil King has become. Even if it was a momentary negligence, it also showed from the side that the seventy-two changes of the Bull Demon King should not be underestimated.

Four

If it is about martial arts, in fact, if it were not for the aura of Sun Wukong's protagonist, he really could not defeat the Bull Demon King.

We can also know from their dialogue that the reason why the Bull Demon King can become the boss is that in addition to being tall, his skills are also the strongest. After Sun Wukong revealed his origin, the Bull Demon King was a little angry, blaming him for not knowing how to lift, and had to find a fight:

"This monkey doesn't know how to fall!" Spare you, but don't go away, but come and pester me!" ”

Of course, we can also understand this sentence as deliberately exaggerating ourselves, after all, many monsters on the way to the scriptures dare to do this to Sun Wukong, but the latter sentence is a bit intriguing:

"If you are a triad enemy of me, I will borrow you from my wife on the mountain, and if the enemy is not able to do so, I will kill you and hate you!"

In the mind of the Bull Demon King, Sun Wukong's ability was far beyond his own, otherwise, he could not say that he could solve the battle in three rounds. Moreover, Sun Wukong also agreed with this sentence of the Bull Demon King, at least in the past, they had been discussed:

"Brother wants to fight, brother is not afraid... I don't know how the martial arts have been compared to the past in recent years, so my brothers asked me to play the stick. ”

This means that I really couldn't beat you before, but in the past few years, I have also been fighting monsters and upgrading on the way to the scriptures, and I am no longer afraid of you.

After playing for a while, suddenly someone called the Bull Demon King to a banquet, and the Bull Devil King really stopped:

"Make the mixed iron rod hold the golden hoop stick, and shout, 'Monkey, you live, wait for me to go to a friend's house to meet the visitor!' After finishing his words, he pressed the cloud head and went straight to the hole. ”

For Sun Wukong, a monkey who is messing around like this, the Bull Devil King can be so free, he can fight when he wants to fight, stop when he wants to stop, Sun Wukong doesn't even want to block the meaning, this kind of confident calmness, really is not pretend.

Five

The third battle between Sun Wukong and the Bull Demon King is no longer a single fight, but more pig eight precepts plus land yin soldiers, and a group of gods hidden in the air:

"Shocked that all the gods of the past Void and the Golden Head Revelation, the Six-Armored Six Dings, and the Eighteen Apologetics Garam all came to besiege the Demon King."

Even so, the Bull Demon King can still be fearless, rival Sun Wukong and the Eight Precepts of pigs, and can also retreat in the siege of the gods, which is rare in the entire Journey to the West.

Moreover, the Bull Demon King's weapons are not the only ones, they belong to the type that comes with them. For example, when he fought with Sun Wukong before, he also used mixed iron rods, and in the last battle, he began to use swords:

"The demon re-dressed, chose two more swords, and walked out the door..."

In the case of forcing him to be anxious, the Bull Demon King can still appear in his true form, which is a giant bull. Although Sun Wukong will also be able to fa tianxiang when fighting against the Erlang God, it is only a monkey that becomes larger, of course, the Eight Precepts of the Pig will also do this move, can arch the cannon, but has not actually fought, and will be affected by food:

"It's just that the body becomes bigger and the belly gets bigger and bigger, and it must be full of food to be good."

Even in the case of being surrounded and suppressed by the gods, the Bull Demon King was still unconvinced, and he was alone in the battle group of gods. The reason that really made him panic was not that he couldn't beat them, but that he didn't expect the Buddha to strike at Lingshan Rulai:

"Bull Demon, you go there!" I waited for Shakyamuni Buddha to send me, the Bliss Heavenly Lotus Net, and now I have captured Ruya! ”

And it is in all directions, a total of four vajras guard the retreat of the Bull Demon King, and each Vajra emphasizes that they are following the Buddha's will and want to take you!

Six

When the four Kongs joined the battle, although the meaning of what each person said was the same, it was also different in detail.

One is to say that he was sent by Shakyamuni Buddha, one is to say that he has received the will of the Western Heavenly Buddha, one is to say that he has received the secret order of Rulai, and the other is that he has personally spoken to the Buddha of the Great Lei Yin Monastery of the Western Heavens...

In the end, there is one meaning, that is, the Bull Demon King, you can't escape today, it's not that Sun Wukong wants to compete with you, but the Buddha wants to take you down!

At this time, the Bull Demon King had no choice, and if he continued to resist, the nature would change. Yesterday was still the nature of being angry with Sun Wukong, but if he resists again today, as long as he hurts others, it is to resist the Buddha's will and disrespect, that is, to make enemies of the entire Spirit Mountain. This caused the Bull Demon King to throw a rat trap and could not continue to fight, after all, no matter how strong he was, he could not challenge the entire Buddha's realm, so he could only panic and flee:

"The demon king turned around in panic and walked south... The Bull King's heart was flustered, and he quickly withdrew and went east... The Ox King retreated in horror and went west... Seeing that all sides were Buddha soldiers and heavenly generals, it was like a net high, and they could not get out of their lives. ”

It can be seen that after this, the Bull Demon King has lost his fighting spirit, not because he can't fight, but because he doesn't dare to fight. It was also at this time that Li Tianwang suddenly came and casually said a word, which made the Bull Demon King angry:

"At the will of the Jade Emperor, I am here to eliminate you!"

What Li Tianwang said was that the Jade Emperor wanted to kill you, which meant that he wanted to kill you. Although the Bull Demon King did not want to be absorbed by the Buddha of Rulai, he did not want to be killed, and what should he do if he went forward was dead, and what should he do?

Seven

In this case, he either turned around and surrendered to the Four Great Kongs, or fought with Li Tianwang, who obviously chose the latter:

"The Ox King was in a hurry, and he transformed into a great white bull, making the two iron horns touch the Heavenly King..."

However, the Bull Demon King, who had changed his true appearance, could not take care of his back, and as a result, he was taken advantage of by Nezha, who had been hiding next to him. He hung two hot wheels on the horns of the bull and blew out a raging fire, making it impossible for the Bull Demon King to stand up to people, and then cut off several Bull Demon King's heads. Coupled with Li Tianwang's mirror hanging in the sky, the Bull Demon King could not change again, and had to lose the battle.

Rather than being punished and executed by the Jade Emperor, it was better to surrender to the Buddha, so the Bull Demon King said:

"Don't hurt my life!" Willing to submit to the Buddhist family also! ”

Having said all this, this leads to our topic today, what exactly is hidden in the Bull Demon King, why should the Buddha make a big fuss and must take him down?

According to our previous issue on Journey to the West, the Iron Fan Princess, that is, the Luocha Woman, was also deliberately placed by the Buddha to the side of the Bull Demon King. Many years ago, it was already blowing the wind on the side of the pillow to make the Bull Demon King belong to the Buddhist family.

This time, in order to make the Bull Demon King completely subordinate, Li Tianwang may even have been bribed by the Buddha, and even resisted the Jade Emperor's will:

"Heavenly King, Prince, Morning Glory Returns to the Buddha."

You must know that before Li Tianwang perfunctorily sun wukong and did not let him kill the golden-nosed white-haired rat essence, his mouth also said that he was doing things according to his will:

"He took it according to Yu's will, so he can't do it easily, and we still have to go back to the will."

From this, it can be seen that the Bull Demon King does have what the Buddha wants, so what is it?

Eight

In fact, it is very simple, as we explained earlier, the Bull Demon King hides the secret of immortality!

As I said before, it seems that the monkeys are making a big fuss in the Heavenly Palace, but in fact, the forces of the Three Realms are competing for the resources of immortality.

Immortal resources, the most reliable is the peach, but unfortunately this resource is firmly controlled in the Heavenly Garden, controlled in the hands of the Queen Mother. It is difficult for others to eat it, even if they offer the immortal basket, they may not be eligible to eat it, such as qi tian dasheng. Not to mention those nether monsters who think they are powerful and qualified to eat peaches, such as lion spirits.

As a prince of the party, Lingshan naturally also wanted to get rid of the immortal resources controlled by the Heavenly Court, and the most reliable was of course to cultivate plants similar to peaches. To this end, after Sun Wukong made a big fuss in the Heavenly Palace, the Buddha felt the crisis and specially invited Zhenyuan Daxian to participate in the Obon Meeting.

The purpose is also very simple, that is, to see if Zhen Yuanzi has a way to copy the ginseng fruit tree, although this thing only matures once in 10,000 years, but it is better than nothing.

Unfortunately, Zhen Yuanzi was not the Queen Mother's mother, and he did not have the ability to cultivate a second similar tree.

However, Lingshan's attempts in this regard have not stopped, although they have not been able to develop a method for cultivating the Immortal Tree. But it was not without progress, at least Guanyin Bodhisattva developed a method to save ginseng fruit trees.

In addition to the Heavenly Garden, other immortals also have their own methods of prolonging life, such as Fu Shou Lu Sanxing is very envious of Zhen Yuanzi, thinking that it is easy for people to live with Tianqi, and it is difficult for themselves:

"If he is very easy, he can live with the heavens; we also need to cultivate refinement, refine qi, store spirits, reconcile dragons and tigers, and catch obstacles and fill in the gaps, I don't know how much work it takes."

Nine

Of course, for Taoists, such as Taishang Laojun, in addition to the above-mentioned ones, they can also practice Dan.

But the Buddhist family was very miserable, and wanted to start by cultivating the immortal tree, but failed. Since plant cultivation is hindered, can we change our minds and attack animals?

And which animal is the most advanced?

Presumably it is a god, yes, if you eat a god, can you also achieve the purpose of immortality?

Yes, it is because of this thought that a golden cicada will be eaten into flowers. Of course, the Buddha gave him an indicator of becoming a Buddha, and presumably the golden cicada was willing to be eaten ten times.

This kind of behavior of Lingshan was simply inconceivable to The disciple of Taishang Laojun, that is, the Silver Horned King:

"If we eat his flesh, we can prolong our lives, what meditation, what merit, what dragon and tiger, what female and male?"

Yes, we usually meditate and make meritorious contributions, but also practice elixirs, engage in what yin and yang gossip, trouble is very much, where is the pleasure of eating people?

The Lingshan Buddha also understood that prolonging life by eating immortals was not destined to be a long-term solution, and if ordinary mortals could also have this effect, why should they always contribute to my dear second disciple?

After this, the Buddhists sped up their speed and looked for another immortality technique, and for this reason, they also targeted some yokai in West NiuheZhou who had escaped the heavenly calamity. For example, the Black Bear Spirit, the reason why he was appreciated by Guanyin Bodhisattva was not because his skills were really powerful, but because he had mastered the art of immortality.

Not only did he himself attain immortality, but even the mortal Elder Jinchi attained longevity under his guidance:

"Strangely, he also lived to be two hundred and seventy years old. I think it was the goblin who passed on some kind of obedience to him, so he had this life. ”

Ten

After Guanyin Bodhisattva obtained the Black Bear Essence, he accelerated the time to test his immortality method, and we can also see from the original work that after the Black Bear Essence became the Great God of the Mountain, the Carp Essence immediately went down.

The carp essence is to get the folk remedy of the black bear essence, and immediately run to the Tianhe River to take the virgin boy and girl to do experiments. Later, the Antarctic Immortals also communicated with Guanyin Bodhisattva at Wuzhuangguan and sent deer spirits to the bhikkhu kingdom to experiment with elixirs on a large scale.

However, as mentioned earlier, this method of immortality is always a little immoral. Although in the eyes of these gods and immortals, mortals are ants, and if they die, they are just joining the next reincarnation, and they are not worth cherishing at all.

But after all, this method of living by eating people to obtain eternal life is not humane enough, too cruel.

At this time, on the one hand, they were continuing to optimize the formula, and on the other hand, they also set their sights on the Bull Demon King Family. Yes, the red child of the Bull Demon King's family is really incredible, or the newborn baby state, has achieved immortality.

For more than three hundred years, his appearance has not changed much, and his weight is less than four pounds. Children in this state, if they grow to adulthood, do not know how many years old, and their longevity is immeasurable.

And as soon as the red child is born, he can achieve such a great achievement, saying that he has realized it himself and cultivated by himself, and it cannot be said that it is unreasonable. That means that the red child is probably born, or the Bull Demon King processed his genes, or when he was an infant, he was given the elixir of immortality.

In order to investigate the reason, Guanyin Bodhisattva first accepted the red child, and before receiving it, he also deliberately tested it with Li Tianwang's Tiangang knife, whether the red child was flesh:

"The goblin, through the legs of the knife out of the tip, the blood flowed into the skin of the flesh."

When they found out that the red child was indeed different, they quickly stepped up their whips and accelerated the work of co-opting the Bull Demon King, which led to the incident of the gods surrounding the Bull Demon King and making him belong to the Buddhist family.

Of course, as we said before, the Red Child is actually from the Daughter Country, so how did the Bull Demon King get the Red Child, and what did he do to him? Regarding these questions, because of the length of the article, we will return to details next time.
