The history of loquat cultivation in Shexian can be traced back to the second year of Song Chunxi (1175), and there is a record of three pools of loquat in the "New Anzhi" written by Luo Yuan.

The loquat of The Three Pools is mainly produced in the three natural villages of Zhangtan, Miantan and Wutan along the Xin'an River in Shexian County, hence the name. It is called "Three Pools" because the mountains surround these three natural villages with three large areas of deep water pools, warm in winter and cool in summer, surrounded by mountains, the unique microclimate of "Three Pools", the climate of clouds and fog all year round, and the climate of abundant rainfall provide unique conditions for the growth of loquat. Because of the unique microclimate of Xin'anJiang, it has experienced "autumn buds, early winter flowering, spring fruit, and summer maturity", and the excellent natural ecology provides a unique "shelter" for the growth of loquat. The loquat fruit of Santan is round in shape, colorful in color, thin in skin and thick in flesh, moderately sweet and sour, tender and juicy, and can be called the best in loquat.

The varieties of Loquat in Santan are mainly based on Da Hong Pao and Glorious Species, accounting for more than 85% of the total.
