Macao Youth Yang Meijing: Perceiving the "Other Temperature" of Life

Several visitors sit idly on their sofas and enjoy the sunsets from all over the world: the afterglow of the setting sun gently sprinkles on the snow-capped mountains, by the window sills of buses, between the buildings of the city, and the beauty that was "ignored" in the hurried footsteps of the past is now being relived with the recording of the images.

This scene is happening at the "Another Temperature - Yang Meijing Works Exhibition". Yang Meijing deliberately put this work at the end of the exhibition, so that visitors who have picked up this sunset collection can capture more beauty in daily life when they walk out of the exhibition hall.

Recently, the Macao Young Artists Promotion Project "Another Temperature – Exhibition of Yang Meijing's Works" sponsored by the Macao Foundation was unveiled in the exhibition hall and multi-purpose hall of the Macao UNESCO Centre. As the seventh artist promoted by the program, the exhibition features nearly 45 selected works by Yang Meijing. The endless stream of visitors, from the perspective of this Young Macau, perceives the "other temperature" of life.

"I've always liked to use art forms like photography and video to document my life. Especially after the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, I found that people's lives have changed a lot: most of the contact between people has shifted online, and people affected by the epidemic are tired and rushing to busy. At this moment, I hope to use my works to remind you kindly: every day in life is still full of beauty and warmth. Yang Meijing said.

As a result, there are many pictures of "passing by" in her works: the lady owner of the breakfast restaurant, the passengers on the bus, the passing streets, the figures of neighbors... And the beautiful sunset.

"The sunset works in the exhibition are one of my recent ideas. At that time, I suddenly had the inspiration to let my friends from all over the world enjoy the sunset together. So, I gathered friends from more than 10 countries and regions such as Switzerland, Finland, France, the Czech Republic, Japan, and South Korea, and asked them to record a one-minute sunset video and share the moment of sunset. Yang Meijing said, "In the lens, the visitor can not only see the sunset beauty, but also feel the beauty of the photographer's current environment." ”

In Yang Meijing's view, this is the "intersection" of people and people, people and cities, people and nature, these seemingly insignificant traces, these interesting records and observations, just reveal the idyllic meaning of life.

"There is also a numismatic series in the exhibition. Coins are also accessible to people at any time of the day but less observed. For example, there will be buildings with historical symbols, dragon and lion dances, and sailing symbols representing the past of the small fishing port, etc. On the MOP, these little daily necessities are also the carriers of historical culture and humanistic customs. ”

In the corner of the exhibition hall, there is also a workshop with the artist's own characteristics. Yang Meijing takes the blue sunning technique (also known as cyanogen plate development) as the theme, and through this handmade method, she drives visitors to understand art. "Using this chemical material, the concentration of the potion can be controlled to control the depth of blue. We then use stitching to make a texture effect of folds, which is very similar to the traces of nature such as mountains and oceans. Through this kind of creation, participants can experience the beauty of color and texture, and perceive the distance between nature and people. Yang Meijing said.

This exhibition is Yang Meijing's first solo exhibition in her hometown of Macao. Through this exhibition, she is also more passionate about creation. "For me, the work is a representation of the attitude to life. As a young person, I hope that after accumulating more than 20 years of 'adventure experience', at the age of 30, I will precipitate myself, find the right positioning and direction, and show a Macao youth's yearning for life and pursuit of beauty. "There are 20 young artists in the promotion program sponsored by the Macao Foundation, and everyone uses this opportunity and platform to highlight their different faces and styles, and have interesting interactions and collisions." We hope that our works and creations can convey attitudes and exert positive energy from the perspective of young people. ”
