At this time, not only this time, since ancient times, people are willing to listen to "auspicious words". Believe it or not, look at the Western Zhou bronzes. From the beginning of the Western Zhou Dynasty, auspicious words and good sounds were carved on bronze.
The inscriptions of western Zhou sacrifices or records of family events are "taolu texts", which first tell the glory and meritorious name of the ancestors or the makers themselves, then express gratitude to the princes, officials, and clansmen, followed by blessings to the ancestors and gods, and finally with auspicious words of prayer for well-being. I hope that the glory of the clan will last for a long time and be passed on to future generations with the prosperity of future generations.
"Ten Thousand Years forever treasure", "ten thousand years without boundaries", "Plum life ten thousand years", "children and grandchildren, ten thousand years of eternal treasure" and so on are common golden auspicious words.
Longevity and Fluke are eternal expectations.
Many of the Bronzes of the Western Zhou Dynasty exhibited in the exhibition "Zhaozi China - Bronzes and Golden Essences Unearthed from Baoji" held by the National Museum have auspicious words such as "Children and Grandchildren Yongbao". Only a few of them are covered.

"Pure Eternal Life" is to expect the ancestors to bless the maker to be able to live forever. He hopes that he can live a long life, that he can serve the Son of Heaven forever as a virtuous courtier, that his descendants will always maintain his glory and favor, and that he will pass on the glory of the family forever.

There are not many inscriptions on this ding, only two lines "the temple is used as a ding, and its children and grandchildren are used by Yongbao". Having said who made the utensils, his children and grandchildren prospered from generation to generation, carried forward the glory of the family, and passed them on and cherished forever.

The name of the owner of "this" Ding, who accepted the orders and rewards of the King of Zhou, was deeply proud and made a ceremonial instrument to comfort his ancestors and commemorate it. At the end of the inscription, in addition to praying to his ancestors to bless him with health and longevity, he can also serve the Son of Heaven forever as a sage.
Late Western Zhou Dynasty This gui (庚).
Qishan Jingdang Dongjiacun No. 1 bronze ware cellar also produced three pieces of this Ding, this gui eight pieces, are all temporary utensils. This inscription also expresses the beautiful expectation of longevity. At the same time, it also expresses the hope that in the case of unavoidable death, I hope that I can end my life and get a decent and satisfactory ending.
Mid-Western Zhou Dynasty.
"Right" is the name of the person who made the artifact. The inscription has "children and grandchildren, its eternal treasure use" is a typical Western Zhou Jinwen common "auspicious words". The "meishou" and "honoring the end" in the text mean longevity and good death.
Late Western Zhou Dynasty Forty-three years of The Reign of Emperor Ding (庚).
It is used to sacrifice the father of the deceased. The content of the prayer includes officialdom, longevity, etc. Terms such as eternal life, eyebrow longevity, and ten thousand years without boundaries are all related to longevity. It can be seen that the maker has ardent expectations for health and longevity.
In the middle of the Western Zhou Dynasty, Zhongnan Father Ju (B).
There are many terms about longevity in the inscription, including Meishou, Kaoshou, Shou kao, wannian, boundless, kao life, eternal life, indefinite, difficult to grow old, no death, etc., the most common of which are Meishou, Wannian, and Wujian. Meishou is a long life in the general sense, without a time limit; although the ten thousand years are extremely long-term, there is still a time limit; without boundaries, it is extremely long-term and has no time limit. These terms reflect the ancients' expectations of life, as well as their feelings and cognitions of time.
