In this April spring, the Kitajima poetry collection "Someone Must Rewrite Love" jointly curated by the Republic and Zebra Valley was published. Not only is it included for the first time in the selection of Kitajima's first long poem "The Wrong Way", but also presents Kitajima's decades of creative process in the form of poetry, prose, photography and painting. He is the collective cultural memory of the people, synonymous with Chinese poetry, an introspective and pure debater.
On the night of April 19, the online reading of "Someone Must Rewrite Love" will bring the long-lost Kitajima to everyone, attracting more than 500,000 people to watch. It was also this night that we discovered that the North Island and poetry, literature and ideals never went far.
One good night in April, Kitajima and his old and young friends read and sang his works together.
Also on a spring day, Kitajima and his friends went boating at the Summer Palace, and in full of spring, the friend began to recite the index finger's "Believe in the Future" aloud, kitajima heard it, and his heart moved, which was his first encounter with the poem, he said: "My seventies began with that poetic spring day."
No season is more suitable than spring to walk into a poet's past, and before spring has left, we set off again.
"Someone Must Rewrite Love" contains 46 classic poems and prose works of Kitajima, more than 20 photographs, paintings, and precious poetry manuscripts. In the evening, the guests read and sang the works.

Munch and Kitajima met in 1972 and became friends, and this year marks the fiftieth anniversary, and this spring, the 72-year-old Munch comes to the appointment of a 73-year-old friend. The "Days," written in the same year as the famous first draft of The Answer, became Munch's first Kitajima work to be read aloud in public in fifty years.
This night, the three founders of Today—Munch, Huang Rui, and Kitajima—met again. The inaugural issue of "Today" was mimeographed on the most rudimentary wax paper, and the first print was 1,000 copies. I heard that in Xidan that year, 23-year-old Gu Cheng stood in front of the inaugural issue and did not want to leave, and finally pestered his sister to take him to the editorial office of "Today". A year later, Gu Cheng wrote that "the night gave me black eyes, but I used it to find the light." The poem was introduced to Peking University, making freshman Haizi crazy. He began to write poems, and finally together with luo Yihe and Xichuan, who were in the same school, he was known as the "Three Musketeers of Peking University".

Old friends meet north island
Chen Xiaonan: Kitajima teacher, how did it feel to hear so many people re-read your works according to the context of time?
Kitajima: Today was a really rare gathering with a lot of old friends. This book is related to my writing and life experience. If poetry is a hidden chain, there are some key chains, it should mention Zhang Langlang, index finger, of course, including Munch, Huang Rui, including Nishikawa and Lanlan, poetry is connected.
Nishikawa: I wrote a letter of more than twenty pages to Today, and after sending it to the sea, I realized that there must have been many people in "Today" at that time who wrote to them. I remember the first time I met Kitajima, he said you were the 163rd guest from our house today, which showed their influence and appeal. I don't know where the twenty-page long letter went, and I don't think it's strange.
Bokum: When I first saw Kitajima, I felt like a junior high school student, he was like this for many years, thin, wearing glasses, looking at people's eyes straight, he was such a person, very simple, very honest. It's a great joy to be lifelong friends with someone like Kitajima, who always unleashes kindness on you, rarely hearing him attack someone fiercely.
When you meet him and talk to him, you will think that he is a very wooden person, but when you enter his work, you find the tension between every string of words, between each character. Especially when he later wrote prose, which surprised me, I told him that your prose is better than your poetry, and his prose made me particularly fascinated, poetry is a particularly abstract language, there are a lot of metaphors, dictionaries, his prose, the amount of information contained much more than poetry. His prose is also full of musicality, and reading his prose is a special pleasure for me, the people he sees, the things he sees, his experiences, there is a strong sense of vision, very graphic.
Lan Lan: I know that Kitajima's name was when I was a teenager, when I was working as a worker in a distillery in Baofeng County, Pingdingshan City, Henan Province, and I often carried a bag with a copy of Heine or Shelley's poems, or a copy of "Three Hundred Poems of Tang Dynasty", and at that time the Xinhua bookstore in the county town only had these things. At that time I had already begun to publish poetry, there was a supplement to Pingdingshan Daily, I often went to submit articles, I knew a poet there, his name was Luo Yu, he was the editor of Pingdingshan Daily, just graduated from Zhengzhou University, he took out a manuscript from the drawer like a baby, it was all copied with poems, he said you come and see, this is the best poet in China, so I saw the poems of Kitajima, Munch, Duoduo, at that time it was really a great shock to me. I, including some of the students after me, the students I taught at the university, must have been influenced by them, and I felt like it was like a river flowing to the present.
Luo Yu, the poet who gave me the manuscript, suddenly called me last night and said that I had been in a bad mood lately, I didn't want to live, I was very uncomfortable, I told him, I must live well, you forgot? How did you read me the poems of the North Island more than thirty years ago, we still have poetry, live well.

What does poetry mean?
Chen Xiaonan: What we especially want to say today is this sentence, at least we still have poetry, fortunately we still have poetry. So we also want to talk about what poetry really is, and what else can it be in today's life?
Nishikawa: The meaning of poetry for a young person, the meaning of a middle-aged person, and the meaning of an elderly person may not be the same. When I was young, just went to college, in the early eighties, there were too many people writing poetry on campus, there were readings in school, I was at Peking University, every year unnamed Lake Poetry Recital, that audience, now unimaginable, the large dining hall can sit three thousand people, there are many people standing, its appeal is so strong. Of course, at that time, it was also more special, and the situation was not the same as now, when young people, if they wanted to express themselves, the means to express themselves were limited, and poetry was the most convenient means.
Now there are fewer people reading poetry, or relatively fewer people writing poetry, in fact, a young person does other things, such as making music, singing, making movies, doing drama, there are many possibilities. When we first started writing poetry, there were not so many possibilities in society as a whole, so poetry became a focus, and everyone paid attention to poetry.
Kitajima was a real superstar, full of light, bringing a new voice, a new expression, and even a new youth culture. I remember when I was in school, my classmates gave me a copy of Today (mimeograph), and I was really surprised to see the works of these authors—Munch, Kitajima, Gu Cheng—and so on. In "The Island", it is roughly said that the birds fly up, and the wings are connected to the wings, such a rhetoric, such an expression, like a book opening the next chapter. The relationship between poetry and the times, and our land. The development of Chinese poetry in these decades, the relationship between poetry and the course of our history is too close.
Blue: Poetry can still soothe us. In the eighties, poets were like superstars. I was studying in the department of Chinese, almost all the students went to buy the "New Poetry And Poetry Collection" compiled by Lao Mu, I bought three sets by myself, two sets were given away, white-skinned, two volumes, very simple, I remember that it was very cheap at that time, about five dollars or a few dollars, Chinese students will go to buy it.
In 1986, Xu Jingya and their "86' Poetry Exhibition" was in Shenzhen, I was at Shenzhen University, and many students in the department of Chinese took a lot of newspapers back to show to everyone, which was related to the open background environment of the whole society.
I have paid more attention to children's poetry education in the past two years, and I have found that children's sensitivity to poetry and language may not be conscious, if you give him a way of expression and teach him how to write, those children can write very many very good poems. For example, when I was in Yunnan, I met a little girl, the family is particularly poor, she wrote in the homework book that there are so many troubles every day, if you can eat a piece of sugar, maybe it will be good, the troubles will be gone, life will become sweeter. That's probably what it means.

Painting and photography are another spiritual outlet
Chen Xiaonan: The poet seems to be different from any kind of exclusive professional label, it is a spiritual title, just like Nishikawa teacher said, the poet is constantly expressing things, what you are encountering, your relationship with the world, and the relationship with the times. Kitajima sensei, in "Someone Must Rewrite Love", in addition to poetry, prose, painting, photography, you also said that painting is to find an outlet for the spirit and express oneself after a stroke when there is no way to continue to write poetry.
Kitajima: I've been living abroad for too long, I've been to a lot of countries, I love photography, I was first influenced by Alan Ginsburg, he recommended Olympus to me, said it was very good, very convenient, I took myself around to play. In fact, it is also related to experience, I will find a strange ghost in the city, I find a similar ghost, in a more familiar city, such as Beijing, it is difficult for me to shoot well. This is quite strange, often in places that have not been visited (can be photographed well).
Later, because of the language problem after the stroke, I could not write for three years, my speech was bumpy, and I did not fully recover so far, so I decided to start painting, which was the origin, and later changed to ink dots, which is a semi-abstract painting. I often show it to Nishikawa, and he thinks it's pretty good.
Boqueen: Kitajima sent me two pictures as soon as he was happy, and sometimes happy to say that I had been painting for a few more hours. The more I looked at his pictures, the more I felt that it had a huge relationship with his poetry.

When I looked at the north island photo, I was really stunned, in fact, it is very simple, each of us will encounter this moment countless times in life, you are in a room, or when you were a child, you were lying in bed, and when your mother opened the door to see you, the house was black, in fact, it was this moment, but this moment North Island could actually grasp it. And he's mostly in this genre, and when I look at Ruins, I say you made it in Greece, and he says yes. Kitajima is a poet, and the poet has to look for it in all phenomena, and in fact photography advocates this, but because you don't have a sense of history, you don't have an understanding of Greek culture, you can't look at this thing that way.
Nishikawa: If you are not prepared to meet a light in your heart, you can't see the light when it comes, and you don't know whether this thing is innate or acquired. There must be a yearning for the light in your heart, and you must have such a preparation in your heart to see this light.
Of course, this light is used as a metaphor, what is it, such as a certain street scene, or a certain scenery, or a word that has been accidentally brought by others in the conversation, this kind of thing may form a gap in your life, and once this gap is presented, you can suddenly lose your mind to it.
The mainstream of life always leads you in one direction, but if a person can allow himself to have an occasional distraction, your life will be completely different. I myself have had this experience, and when your attention is slightly off, you may be able to discover what kind of scenery is new.
