According to the latest analysis by NPD Group, Microsoft Xbox consoles became the highest-selling game consoles in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2022, although the Sony PS5 was in the lead earlier this year.
Xbox consoles are not only the highest-selling consoles in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2022, but also the consoles with the highest sales in March 2022. That marked Microsoft's most successful March in more than a decade, with the Xbox last becoming the best-selling console in 2011, when the Xbox 360 was still in service. In addition, in terms of console sales, the Switch still topped the list in March and the first quarter of 2022.
Overall, hardware sales across all platforms fell 24 percent, accessories fell 16 percent, games fell 7 percent, and gaming industry spending fell 8 percent compared to the same period in 2021.
In terms of games, Eldon's Ring of Law is still at the top of the US sales charts in March 2022, with sales up from February. While Eldon's Ring of Law has only been on sale for two months, in the past 12 months, Eldon's Ring of Law has been the second best-selling game in the United States, after Call of Duty.
In the other parts of the March 2022 U.S. Game Sales Chart, GT Racing 7 ranked second, setting new sales records for the GT series; Kirby Star: Discovery third; MLB The Show 22 fourth; and Horizon: Desperate west fifth.
