Recently, the state-owned pharmaceutical enterprise Jiangsu Lianhuan Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Lianhuan Group) announced the successful acquisition of 97.5% of the equity of Yangzhou Mary Women's Hospital, and held a signing ceremony on April 13 on related investment matters.

According to the official website, Yangzhou Mary Gynecology Hospital was established in July 2009, is a specialty hospital for obstetrics and gynecology, covering an area of more than 10,000 square meters, enterprise investigation information shows that the main body of "Yangzhou Mary Gynecology Hospital" was cancelled on March 1, 2022, on the same day, "Yangzhou Mary Gynecology Hospital Co., Ltd." was established, and the major shareholder is Jiangsu Lianhuan Health Industry Management and Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Lianhuan Group.

It is understood that Lianhuan Group was established in July 1990, is a collection of research and development, production, sales as one of the comprehensive state-owned wholly-owned pharmaceutical enterprises, its predecessor was founded in 1958 Yangzhou Pharmaceutical Factory, but also Yangzhou municipal first-class enterprises. The company mainly focuses on the overall layout of "pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical equipment, medical care and health", and has two listed companies.

In fact, in recent years, with the introduction of a series of heavy favorable policies by the state, the field of women and children has received a lot of attention from capital.

On January 16, Xuzhou Xingchen Women's and Children's Hospital, the first "Xingchen Department" women's and children's specialist hospital under Fosun Medical, was officially opened. It is reported that the hospital was established in July 2018, planning 200 beds, and is committed to building an obstetrics and gynecology and pediatric highland in the Huaihai Economic Zone.

On December 23, 2021, according to the New Century Medical Official Micro News, the Foshan New Century Huanhu Women's and Children's Hospital located in Chancheng District, Foshan, Guangdong Province, also held a groundbreaking ceremony. In June 2020, Jinxin Fertility also announced that it intends to acquire a 75% stake in Wuhan Huangpu Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Maternity Hospital for 320 million yuan. Later, the hospital was renamed Wuhan Jinxin Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Maternity Hospital and officially opened in June 2021.

Not only that, on October 19, 2021, jinxin reproductive (01951.HK), a private assisted reproduction enterprise, announced that it intends to acquire 100% of the equity of a private tertiary women's and children's hospital in the southwest region, namely Sichuan Jinxin Women's and Children's Hospital, for 3 billion yuan to improve the strategic layout of the company's full-cycle fertility services. On November 26, Jinxin Fertility announced that with the necessary conditions for the acquisition being met, Jinxin Women's and Children's Hospital will be fully controlled by the group.

In September 2021, in order to diversify its services, we will develop the maternal and child medical market and enrich the Group's existing medical and nursing business. Longhu Group (000960), a well-known listed real estate company, announced its own acquisition plan, which intends to acquire Chongqing Youyou Baby Women's and Children's Hospital and related assets for 1.08 billion yuan.

According to the hospital's official WeChat, Chongqing Youyou Baby Women's and Children's Hospital is a women's and children's specialized hospital built by Shuanghu Capital and the Children's Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing Medical University in accordance with the JCI International Medical Quality Service Standards and the standards of tertiary hospitals after the planning approval of the Chongqing Municipal Government.

In addition, it is reported that New Mileage Hospital Group has also acquired three maternity hospitals in Zhejiang and Fujian, namely the current Shaoxing Yuecheng Maternity Hospital, Jiaxing Yuecheng Maternity Hospital and Quanzhou New Mileage Maternity Hospital. According to the company's official website, the group is headquartered in Beijing, in addition to having professional platforms such as New Mileage Medical, Hongci Medical, Huayou Medical, etc., it also manages nearly 40 second-class hospitals and 200 primary medical institutions in nearly 20 provinces and cities across the country, with a total number of beds reaching 30,000.

Is the women's and children's field still a good track?

It is reported that as early as 2017, the National Health and Family Planning Commission formulated and issued the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" National Family Planning Development Plan, which emphasized and encouraged social forces to set up non-profit women's and children's hospitals. In June 2019, 10 ministries and commissions jointly issued a document reiterating the standardization and guidance of social forces to hold medical institutions such as women's and children's hospitals.

There was a boom in investment in the field of women and children. "In previous years, the three major departments with the fastest running and earliest development of private medical institutions had obstetrics and gynecology, but the situation was not the same in recent years," duan Tao, a famous obstetrics and gynecology expert and founder of Springfield Medical Management, said at the 2021 Shanghai Medical Fair hosted by the medical community.

So, in this case, isn't it a good track for women and children?

Duan Tao believes that this is not the case. The landing of the three-child policy is an opportunity for women and children, but it will take enough time to manifest. For well-funded companies, this is also a good opportunity to acquire women's and children's hospitals at a low price.

For some maternity hospitals, the transformation of women's and children's hospitals is a direction, that is to say, not only to do obstetrics and gynecology, but to do obstetrics and gynecology and pediatric plus, to integrate consumer-level confinement, maternity, medical beauty and children's health, which is the incremental space and ceiling of future women's and children's hospitals.
