Hello everyone, I'm Eleven Mom! Welcome to the Eleven Moms' Baby Sleep Book. Today I want to talk to you about how to create a comfortable and safe sleeping environment for your baby. Many times the baby is not easy to fall asleep, easy to wake up, more or less related to the sleeping environment.
The sleeping environment is nothing more than three points: the right temperature, humidity and light.
These conditions are simple to say, but there are still some details to pay attention to in practice. Let's take a closer look.

Bedroom temperature: Keep it cool in summer
First, let's talk about the temperature of the bedroom. I often have mothers ask me, when the baby sleeps, what degrees should the bedroom be kept?
In fact, there is no strict standard for how many degrees, and I suggest you grasp a big principle: a slightly cooler environment is suitable for the baby.
What is [slightly cooler]? When the baby sleeps, you can touch the skin on the back of the baby's neck with your hands, if it is dry and warm, this temperature is appropriate; If your baby's skin is sticky and sweaty, it's too hot.
Pay attention to touching when the baby is quiet, and it is not accurate to touch when the baby is crying.
We Chinese parents are most afraid of the baby's cold, many parents are not willing to turn on the air conditioner for the baby, and they do not open it in the summer. In fact, the baby's metabolism will be more vigorous than adults, it is easier to feel hot, we can not use their own feelings of temperature to judge the baby's feelings.
In the summer, adults with air conditioning will generally recommend driving to between 24 ° C and 28 ° C, but this standard is not necessarily completely suitable for babies, I suggest you first use the method of touching the neck I mentioned above to judge. I can share with you that when my three babies sleep, the air conditioner is turned on to 22 ° C, is it not a surprise?
All in all, don't care too much about how many degrees the temperature is, it is important to judge whether the baby is hot or not by touching the neck.
If the baby itself is prone to sweating, there are long prickly heat, eczema, and unstable sleep, you can lower the air conditioning temperature a little, or let the baby wear one less piece and cover one less layer.
Humidity in the bedroom: Maintain 60% humidity in autumn and winter
Improper temperature is a problem that is more likely to occur in summer, and the problem that is more likely to occur in autumn and winter is the humidity of the bedroom. Lack of humidity is an important cause of sudden sleep problems or sleep regression in your baby in autumn and winter, but it is easy to overlook.
If your baby has sleep problems at home, it is recommended that you prepare a hygrometer. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends that the humidity in your baby's bedroom should be kept at 30%-60%.
However, in practice, I found that it may still be a little too dry, because turning on the air conditioner and heating in autumn and winter will make the room drier.
In autumn and winter, if your baby is prone to thirst, obviously not hungry but need to drink milk, cough and nasal congestion, then you can adjust the humidity to 60% or even higher, and then observe.
I highly recommend putting a humidifier in your baby's bedroom in the fall and winter, it's convenient and simple. If you don't have a humidifier at home for a while, you can also use the following 3 tips to temporarily alleviate it:
1. If you use heating at home, you can put a few wet towels on the radiator when sleeping;
2. If the home is underfloor heating, you can replace the towel with a bath towel and spread it directly on the floor, so that the area of water is larger;
3. If the home is air-conditioned, you can get a wet towel under the air conditioner.
Bedroom light: with full blackout curtains, ensure that the environment is dark
Finally, let's talk about the light problem in the bedroom, in the summer, the baby wakes up early and has difficulty napping during the day, which is often related to the light.
You may think that when you go to sleep, you have to turn off the lights and pull the curtains, everyone knows it.
However, I suggest you pay attention to the degree of shading of your curtains.
Are the curtains light transparent in the early morning? Can curtains cover the entire window? Is there any light leakage in the position of the curtain rod?
If so, it's recommended that you switch to full blackout curtains or adjust where your baby sleeps. With full blackout curtains, you can also effectively prevent your baby from waking up early.
While naps during the day don't need to be completely shaded like at night, keeping the bedroom dark can make it easier for your baby to fall asleep and sleep a little longer.
Here I would like to emphasize that the three conditions we mentioned above, bedroom temperature, humidity, and light, if you adjust them appropriately, the baby should be consistent when sleeping.
In other words, if you want your baby to continue to sleep well, don't turn off the air conditioner or pull back the curtains in the middle of the way, which is best to agree with other family members.
Safe sleeping position and sleeping environment
After talking about comfort, I have to say two more words about safety issues.
Regarding the sleeping position, many mothers may already know that sleeping flat is the safest sleeping position for babies. Although we may have your baby lying on his side when coaxing, this only applies to the soothing phase.
After the baby sleeps steadily, we still have to change the baby back to the lying position. Of course, if the baby has learned to turn over on his own, he does not have to pay special attention to this problem.
In addition, the layout of the crib, pay attention to the following three points:
1. Do not put soft pillows, cushions, bed circumferences, and toys on the bed to prevent the baby from suffocation;
2. After the baby starts practicing standing, adjust the mattress to the lowest to prevent the baby from turning over;
3. The mattress should fit the size of the bed, and the gap between the mattress and the bed should be less than two fingers wide to prevent the baby from being caught.
Well, today's article is shared here, I hope that we can have the opportunity to become a better self because of the arrival of our children, be better parents, learn to think, learn to judge, learn to analyze, and accompany our children to grow up with him.
