"Kingdom Hearts 4" was officially announced at the "Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary Event" on April 10, but recently producer Tetsuya Nomura said that because the game is still in the early stage of production, game information such as release date, character introduction, world appearance and story background will not be announced in the short term, at least until this year's summer game festival.
Tetsuya Nomura mentioned that the reason why Kingdom Hearts 4 was officially announced in the early stages of development was because they wanted to avoid being leaked, because they saw the figure of "King's Heart 4" in the list of NVIDIA GeForce Now internal database leaks in September 2021. Realistically, they announced it later than leaked it.
Kingdom Hearts 4 has been decided to be developed using Unreal 5, and Tetsu nomura came up with two ideas when deciding to make a new Kingdom Hearts game: one is Kingdom Hearts 4, and the other is a game based on Kingdom Hearts 3 and introduced to the world of Verum Rex, which was eventually abandoned.
Tetsuya Nomura explains that because it was too difficult to develop two console games at the same time, and the story of Kingdom Hearts 4 is set in Quadratum, which is the world to which Kingdom Hearts 3 Sora is teleported and the beginning of the new Lost Masters storyline, Kingdom Hearts 4 will be more suitable for telling Sora's fate.
