QuestoWorld creates a travel version of the "Pokémon Go" metaverse game

Original source: venturebeat

QuestoWorld is a metaverse game in the real world where players complete missions by walking outdoors. What's more, it will soon give generous token rewards to players who walk outdoors and buy virtual real estate.

The company calls its Pokémon Go-style game a game built on top of the real world and ethereum blockchain networks (virtual world universes, all interconnected, like novels like Avalanche and Ready Player One).

Unlike other NFT game projects, this game lets people go outside and look for things. It is similar to Geocaching or Pokémon Go. But what makes it different is that it leverages what's already in the city: statues, buildings, small elements, CEO Alex Govoreanu said in an interview with GamesBeat.

"It's an economic model that we're building," he said, "and I understand that people are more convinced that the metacosm is just virtual." But for us, the metacosm can also be something built on top of the real world, and the important thing is that it's a community of digitally connected people. "

More than 200,000 players have been testing this role-playing game (RPG), and they have traveled more than 500,000 kilometers while solving challenges in more than 140 cities.

Players can play user-generated content (UGC), or games created by locals (writers, guides, copywriters, etc.), allowing fans to appreciate a place in the real world.

Welcome to QuestoWorld

QuestoWorld sees the real world as a playground for your imagination. Govoreanu says you can imagine a game world imagined and built by a global community of storytellers, dedicated researchers and game designers.

You play these games in real life (IRL) and you can discover new places and their backstories. It's a different way of looking at the metaverse, because most prophets think of it as a 3D virtual world that you access through a computer or a future virtual reality headset. In these worlds, real-world interaction is minimal.

But this version of the metaverse is more like Pokémon Go, where you can see things in the real world that you can identify with online data. Govoreanu has a different view of the future, and the company will build an entertainment layer based on the real world. This enhances the real world, rather than ignoring or replacing it.

QuestoWorld includes areas of imagination owned by the community. These areas are NFTs that will allow people to create and enjoy real-world RPG games and more. The first NFT Realms will be launched soon, and it will contain 3500 unique digital projects that can be certified via blockchain.

Realms are connected to real-world spaces where games can be built. Game creators and players will collaborate on real-world game projects – creating a game network; a story-driven metaverse.

Realms owners obtain true proof of ownership in the form of (NFTs), a unique digital asset stored on the Ethereum blockchain. Every Realms is a layer of imagination built on top of the real world.

Govoreanu says you'll be able to walk around the city, solve puzzles and discover new places by interacting with your surroundings.

All Questo RPGs are built using Quest Studio and can be played using the Questo app, an interactive mobile app.

origin

The company began working on the technology more than five years ago, and Govoreanu began thinking about it while exploring Rome. He felt like the trip was broken because he was just following in the footsteps of hundreds of thousands of people who were doing the same thing.

"It feels very impersonal. The idea at the beginning was that for any kind of travel, it should be equally valuable to locals and to travelers," he said.

QuestoWorld was built as a "painkiller" for travelers who are tired of imitating others. Govoreanu wanted to learn cool local stories about the places he visited. Or maybe he wants to solve a challenge and be motivated to walk around.

Each game has 10 to 15 chapters, including directions, challenges, and stories. Each chapter is a combination of text, pictures, video, and audio.

"Soon, we will also add other features, such as compass, and by the end of this year, we also plan to add AR scenes to enhance the storytelling," Govoreanu said.

The Bucharest, Romania-based team has 25 full-time employees and has raised $2.2 million so far. Employees in seven countries.

Momentum

Today, there are more than 300 games in 140 cities around the world.

Govoreanu said: "Each of them is unique," said. "In every game, you play a different role. So, for example, one of our most successful games is in Rome. You play the role of Robert Langdon, the protagonist in the Angels and Devils movies and books.

Your job in that mission is to save the Pope. You have to overcome various challenges, such as finding hidden codes or inscriptions on buildings, and QuestoWorld tells you about Rome and the places you visit on your travels.

The most successful game is set in Paris, in a romantic neighborhood in the mountains. You play the role of a lover, and at the end of the game you will find out if the couple is still together. You will learn a lot of romantic stories related to the city.

"The main vision is always to open the platform at scale," Govoreanu said. "Because what we want to do is turn the whole world into a playground."

Players use the Questo Creative Room on the company's website to start creating their own games. User-created games are reviewed and the team provides feedback. It will then be published in QuestoWorld.

The average user age is about 35 years old. About half are locals and half are travelers. In Vienna, travelers go for art or culture.

Many people are also interested in film locations, such as the filming scene of Game of Thrones in Croatia. QuestoWorld is working with HBO Max on a game project in Bucharest.

As for NFTs, the company will sprinkle 100,000 digital objects around the world, each of which is an NFT. Players are able to own land connected to specific locations, such as Montmartre in Paris. "The incentive is for players to create and build on the land, it's like getting passive income," he said.
