Ron Gilbert, the father of the ancient "Flower and Fruit Mountain" in the field of gaming, is working on a new sequel to the Monkey Island series, Return to Monkey Island, which will be released this year.
He is currently working on a new game in the classic Monkey Island adventure game series, Return to Monkey Island, which will be released this year.
According to YouTube's trailer, Return to Monkey Island is a "long-awaited sequel" to The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. The protagonist, Guybrush Threepwood, will return, and he will again be voiced by Dominic Armato.
According to the trailer, Monkey Island returns to Monkey Island in collaboration with Developer Digital, developer of the 2017 old-school adventure game Thimbleweed Park, in collaboration with Disney-owned Lucasfilm Games (which had worked on LucasArts' first four Monkey Island games) and Devolver Digital. Happily, Rex Crowle, who has worked on designing aesthetic art-style games like Tearaway and LittleBigPlanet, is the game's art director, which means the game will have a strong sense of style.
Back in 2013, Gilbert wrote a blog titled "If I Make a Monkey Island Again," which seemed almost likely to come true.
