The Tang Dynasty calligraphy school, Ouyang Qing and Yan Zhenqing can be said to be the two major mainstreams in the field of calligraphy. The appearance and style of these two calligraphies are different.

Do you know the four characteristics of Yan Zhenqing's book?
Such as Ou introverted and outward, Ou is dangerous and steady, one of them. The European character seems to be more vivid than the Yan character, in fact, the next stroke is late and careful, and the Yan character seems to be fatter than the European character, in fact, the next pen is flexible and smooth, which is the second. The European characters are arranged loosely between the characters, and the length and size of the glyphs are different; the yanzi characters and the words are arranged compactly, and the glyphs are almost the same as the square, which is the third.
Based on these three points, it is enough to explain the differences between the two schools of writing in Ouyan. However, just as there are martial artists with the North and south schools, and those who learn boxing learn from the North without learning the South, it does not reduce the artistic value and mainstream role of that family because of this disagreement. In general, there are not many features of yan characters.
The reason is that the Yan character comes out of the Chu character, although it is its own family, the form and writing method of some strokes, as well as a number of Chu character components, such as the horizontal painting in the "Duo Pagoda Stele" are as strong as the Chu character, but Yan's closing pen is heavier than Chu.
The unique and significant characteristics of Yanzi are only manifested in three aspects: vertical, pinching and hooking. The Hidden Feng and Lu Feng of Yan Zi are easy to see that their strength is in the middle, so they can be deep and rich.
There are four characteristics of the pen in "Many Pagoda Tablets": First, whether it is oblique or flat, the gesture sinks downwards. Second, the end picks the pen, all of which are isosceles triangles, because the pen does not need to be returned, so it is very sharp. This is only the case in the "Duo Pagoda Stele", and the other tablets of the Yanshu use a round pen instead of a square pen, which is slightly different from this. Third, the oblique stroke of the pen is straight down, do not use the reverse pen, and the flat stroke is used in the reverse pen. Fourth, the strokes that are joined with other strokes all pass through the strokes that are joined, so this stroke appears particularly long.
The vertical hook of the Yan character is the same as the European character. Arc hook, like Yu character. However, the vertical curved hook is somewhat different. The last tick, not upward, not outward, but slightly inward. Especially at the bend, the Yan character is always vertical and thin and thick, so its writing method should be vertical painting to the bend, the pen is lifted up, and then pressed down, pulled out forcefully to the right, so the vertical painting is slightly thicker, gradually thinner, to the bend is thinner, it is to store the gesture for horizontal pulling preparation. Yan's "Ge" method, the end of the hook is also picked inward, is also a feature of Yan.
