Today marks the 41st anniversary of the death of writer, critic and cultural activist Mao Dun.
Mao Dun (1896-1981), formerly known as Shen Dehong, was born in Wuzhen, Tongxiang, Zhejiang. In the 1910s, after graduating from the preparatory department of Peking University, he worked in the Compilation Institute of the Commercial Press.

"Lu Guomao, Ba Lao Cao", Mao Dun, together with Lu Xun and others, became the pioneers and giants of modern Chinese literature and art.

In 1982, the first Mao Dun Literature Award was held, and 6 works from 1977 to 1981, such as "Furong Town" (Guhua), won the award.
