Automobili Lamborghini strongly supports World Recycling Day. The International Recycling Foundation announced in 2018 that it will designate 18 March as World Recycling Day to promote global recycling and play a vital role in conserving natural resources, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and safeguarding the human homeland. In 2009, Automobili Lamborghini received ISO 14001 certification for the first time, and the headquarters plant also carried out a waste upgrade operation in the same year.
In 2021, 51% of the special waste generated during the manufacturing process will be recycled by the company. In 2020, the company launched two recycling and upcycling initiatives to bring new life to production waste. Turning waste that needs to be disposed of into new resources is good for both society and the environment.
Leather that does not meet quality standards, and materials that cannot be used due to size or minor natural imperfections, will be transformed as raw materials into exquisite and customized leather products, bringing it back to life. Lamborghini has reached an agreement with the Cooperativa Cartiera organization in Marzabotto to work on the project to upgrade leather and fabric by-products that were originally planned to be landfilled. The organization strictly adheres to the principles of social integration, fine craftsmanship and environmental sustainability. The first four products launched by the Upcycled Leather Project are tote bags, smartphone cases, card cases and keychains, all with custom branding and the words "REDUCE" (REDUCE), REUSE (reuse), RECYCLE (recycling)."
Lamborghini makes extensive use of carbon fiber composites in automobile manufacturing, and the waste generated by these refined materials when used can be recycled. For many years, Lamborghini has been using carbon fiber waste in the R&D process, allowing it to achieve the best lightweight and mechanical properties in automotive components. Since 2020, the company has recycled about 27 tons of carbon fiber waste. Other options for recycling include donating materials to training institutions, such as the Experis Academy of Technology in Fornovo di Taro, and university associations such as Bologna Motorsport, to train new technicians and engineers. This form of material recycling is carried out in parallel with the development of goods and accessories for Lamborghini events and small-scale production of customers, thereby gaining experience, experimenting with new technologies and processes that can subsequently be used in the development of vehicle components.
