IT Home learned that the "Matter" standard was born out of the CHIP (IP-based Smart Connected Home) project, which is not to technically subvert the smart home, but to solve the problems of smart home communication protocol fragmentation, platform non-interoperability, and complex experience.

The updated timeline suggests that Matter-certified devices will still be available for sale this year, with 130 devices from 15 categories from 50 companies becoming the first to support the Matter standard.
