Tesla began using new parameters such as wind direction to predict range more precisely

IT House reported on March 17 that Tesla has begun to use new parameters such as wind, air density and humidity to calculate the more accurate range of its electric vehicles.

According to Hacker @greentheonly, the 2022.8.2 software update released this week includes one change that wasn't mentioned: The trip planner now takes into account crosswinds/headwinds, air density, and humidity.

The hacker also said the feature may only be available in China at the moment.

It's unclear how the trip planner measures and uses these variables, but it's easy to understand how wind direction affects the range of an electric car, and taking that into account, Tesla's estimated range will be more accurate.

IT Home learned that Tesla added more parameters in 2018 to estimate the range, including altitude changes, weather and so on.

Tesla's drivers can enter destinations in the car's interactive system to determine if they have enough power to complete the trip. These estimates may vary slightly due to external factors such as weather. The new feature may improve the accuracy of mileage prediction by several percentage points.
