After the extreme event, LME announced the suspension of nickel trading, and the nickel price was fixed at $80,000 / ton. Nickel futures surged 240% in two trading days, setting a new record for price spikes in the 145 years since LME was founded.
On the evening of the 8th, the London Metal Exchange announced that it would postpone the delivery of all spot nickel contracts originally scheduled for delivery on March 9, and cancel all nickel trading executed at 00:00 UK time on March 8 (8:00 a.m. Beijing time on March 8) or after over-the-counter trading and LME select screen trading system. The latest news from the London Metal Exchange said that nickel futures trading will resume no earlier than March 11, and a 10% one-day limit will be set for nickel futures.
