Amazon Games and Smilegate RPG have announced that Lost Ark now has more than 20 million users worldwide.
Christoph Hartmann, vice president of Amazon Games, said: "Overall, enthusiasm for The Lost Ark is heating up rapidly around the world, as evidenced by the growing number of players around the world."
"Together with Smilegate, we are committed to supporting the growing community with a strong roadmap of updates for years to come."
This free MMO ARPG had an incredible release last month. In the first three days alone, more than 4.7 million players joined the Lost Ark community.
It was during these three days that The Lost Ark saw a spike of 1.32 million simultaneous online players. That makes it the second largest simultaneous online game Steam has ever had, with only PUBG ahead of it.
That's not to say, however, that The Lost Ark hasn't had problems. This ARPG game became so popular that many people found themselves stuck in a long queue of servers and ended up unable to get into the game.
This led Amazon Games to create a new server, the West Europe data center, to ease congestion. However, even with this new server, the Lost Ark's Central Europe server "continues to fill up", resulting in "player queues" and "some instability in the region".
And, according to Amazon's head of gaming IP, adding more servers won't help ease congestion for games. That's because Ark Lost has a "limit on how many peak concurrent players can be supported in any one region.".
Does this suggest that the old MMORPG online game genre is about to spring up again?
