Baidu Apollo Day: Come on, it's time for the second half

In 2021, with the crazy lidar on the car and the computing power of the intelligent driving platform continues to break through thousands, "automatic driving" has become a new label for smart cars in people's mouths, and the topic and technology of automatic driving and unmanned driving have become less fantastic in front of consumers.

But before driverless cars slowly enter private cars and passenger cars, there is a group of people who have been studying how to land Robotaxi, including Baidu Apollo, Xiaoma Zhixing, Wenyuan Zhixing, AutoX, Didi and so on.

Baidu Apollo Day: Come on, it's time for the second half

Just today, Baidu Apollo Day Technology Open House was held in Beijing Yizhuang Apollo Park. Baidu Apollo broadcast the daily tests of driverless fleets live for the first time, and announced the number of radish fast running orders, site density and so on.

Baidu Apollo began to accelerate

In June 2021, Baidu Apollo's autonomous driving test mileage exceeded 12 million kilometers;

In November 2021, Baidu Apollo's autonomous driving test mileage exceeded 20 million kilometers;

Up to now, Baidu Apollo has tested more than 25 million kilometers of autonomous driving.

Baidu Apollo's self-driving test mileage is accelerating at a rate of no less than 1 million kilometers per month, while unmanned testing has also driven from Shougang Park to the social open road in the core area of Yizhuang, and commercial toll operations have also been applied from the park to the public's daily travel services.

According to Baidu Apollo's planning:

In 2021, Baidu Apollo fully implemented the "unmanned + commercialization" model room in Shougang Park;

In 2022, Baidu Apollo will make every effort to build an "intelligent transportation demonstration area highland" in Yizhuang, relying on the accumulation of unmanned, 5G cloud driving, and vehicle-road collaboration to achieve a technical route suitable for the complex road conditions of Chinese cities and quickly seize the commanding heights of autonomous driving technology.

Baidu Apollo Radish Run is currently open in 8 cities, including Beijing, Changsha, Cangzhou, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing and Yangquan. In this regard, Baidu Apollo released some order data for 2021:

Beijing Yizhuang: single-day peak 1575 singles, bicycle average daily peak 28.72 singles;

Shanghai Anting: single peak single single

Guangzhou Science City: 608 singles in a single day, 18.11 singles in a single day.

Taking Beijing Yizhuang as an example, in half a year, Radish Run has increased by more than 50% in terms of vehicle number, station density and order density.

At the same time, compared with the total order volume of 115,000 in Q3 in 2021, Baidu Apollo Radish Fast Run directly came up with a total order volume of 214,000 in Q4 in 2021, which was closely doubled, and the total order volume in Q3 and Q4 exceeded 300,000.

Growing in size

Test fleet

In June 2021, Baidu Apollo released the fifth generation of shared unmanned vehicle Apollo Moon. Baidu Apollo front-loading mass production car from the previous fourth generation of single model, to the fifth generation of three models: Apollo Moon Extreme Fox Edition, Weima Edition, Aeon Edition.

In September 2019, Baidu Apollo's first mass-produced shared unmanned vehicles were unveiled in Changsha, when only 45 vehicles were put into trial operation.

Up to now, the test fleet has exceeded 500 vehicles, and 411 autonomous driving licenses have been obtained, of which 231 are manned licenses. Baidu Apollo plans to expand its fleet to 3,000 vehicles by 2023.

Trial operation

Taking Beijing as an example, the current Baidu Apollo radish fast run trial operation area covers the four corners of Yizhuang, Shunyi, Haidian and Shijingshan, and with the process of trial operation and policy, Baidu Apollo will gradually expand to the center in Beijing.

In February this year, Yangquan City officially issued Baidu Apollo Radish Run to the pilot license for the commercialization of intelligent and connected vehicle autonomous driving services and the pilot license for the commercialization of unmanned travel services for intelligent connected vehicles.

Baidu Apollo plans to expand the Radish Run shared driverless car service from 8 cities today to 65 cities by 2025, and to 100 cities by 2030.

commercialization

Up to now, Radish Run has begun to commercialize paid operation services in Beijing, Chongqing and Yangquan, and has taken the lead in launching the digital RMB payment function in Beijing Yizhuang, realizing the first combination of automatic driving and digital currency.

After the start of commercialization, the user scale, frequency and stickiness still showed steady growth.

Safe, secure, or safe

"Autonomous driving is not equal to zero accidents, but safer than human driving" This is what Wang Yunpeng, vice president of Baidu and general manager of the autonomous driving technology department, mentioned at the Baidu Apollo Day Technology Open Day.

At the scene, Baidu Apollo presented a real-time picture of the fleet undergoing daily driverless tests through live connection. In this regard, Xu Baoqiang, director of Baidu's automotive robot department, mentioned that China's urban roads are more complex than the United States, the density of urban road traffic participants in Beijing is 15 times that of California, and it is more difficult for autonomous driving to achieve large-scale unmanned deployment in China.

Baidu Apollo also announced its core to ensure the safety of autonomous driving: functional safety methodology + three-layer safety system + complete test and verification process.

Relying on the core guarantee of "safety first", Baidu Apollo has been able to gradually promote the large-scale unmanned testing process from closed areas to open roads, from drivers to cars.

At last

At present, the first half of Robotaxi has ended, the competition for the second half of Robotaxi has begun, and large-scale commercial operations have become the keywords of industry development.

Baidu Apollo Day: Come on, it's time for the second half

Robotaxi technology from research and development to testing, to trial operation and formal landing, and finally it has to enter the level of a large-scale business scenario application, and today's Baidu Apollo also has the potential for large-scale commercial operation.

According to Baidu's 2021 Q4 financial report data, in December 2021, Baidu App monthly active users reached 622 million, an increase of 14% year-on-year, and the proportion of daily login users reached 82%. Baidu has an extremely large user base and user activity, which will bring great help to the scale expansion and commercialization of Baidu Apollo in the future.
