Member Yang Yang: Strengthen the transformation of the results of the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games

Beijing, 5 Mar (Xinhua) -- The Fifth Session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference opened in Beijing on 4 March, which is also the opening day of the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games.

After China dedicated a "truly unparalleled" Winter Olympics, the Winter Paralympic Games opened, allowing the world's attention to focus on China again. Yang Yang, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the recipient of the first gold medal for the Mainland Winter Olympics, suggested that the transformation of the achievements of the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games should be strengthened, the sustainable development of volunteer services should be promoted, and the barrier-free construction of public facilities and services on the mainland should be promoted. Consolidate the development results of "300 million people participating in ice and snow sports" and continue to promote the development of youth ice and snow sports.

Promote the sustainable development of volunteerism

Volunteers for the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games have been recruited worldwide, with more than one million applicants. Of the more than 18,000 volunteers who served the Beijing Winter Olympics, 94% were under the age of 35, and more than 200,000 people participated in urban volunteer services.

Yang Yang believes that volunteers have shown a bright Chinese business card to the world with youth and dedication, self-confidence and smile, contributed volunteer strength to dedicate a simple, safe and wonderful Winter Olympics, and won praise from all over the world.

In order to promote the transformation of volunteer service achievements of the Winter Olympics and achieve sustainable development, Yang Yang made suggestions from five aspects:

The first is to continue to stimulate the enthusiasm of the whole society to participate in volunteer service. Relevant departments have strengthened the selection of advanced and typical trees for Winter Olympic volunteers, told the story of Chinese Winter Olympic volunteers at home and abroad, and infected and led more people to participate in volunteer services.

The second is to continue to promote the professionalization and institutionalization of volunteer service at the Games. On the one hand, promote the professional volunteer service system and capacity building, attract more people with professional skills to join the volunteer team, and actively apply the transformation of the professional institutional achievements of volunteer service to volunteer services in various fields; on the other hand, we will strive to promote the transformation of urban volunteer service in the Winter Olympics into normalized community volunteer service, sink the condensed volunteer service organizations, teams, resources, etc. to urban and rural communities, and realize the effective transformation of urban volunteer service recruitment training, working mechanisms, guarantee incentives and other results.

The third is to continue to pay attention to and promote the growth of young volunteers. Fifth, continue to expand international exchanges of volunteer services. Yang Yang suggested that relevant departments further promote the quality and expansion of overseas volunteer service projects, and increase the work of sending Chinese youth volunteers in international organizations, international conferences, international competitions, etc., so as to provide a strong guarantee for expanding international exchanges in volunteer services.

Promote the barrier-free construction of public facilities and services

On September 7, 2018, the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, the China Disabled Persons' Federation, the Beijing Municipal Government and the Hebei Provincial Government jointly issued the "Accessibility Guidelines for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games", which put forward principle requirements and detailed parameters from the content of information accessibility, urban accessibility, barrier-free transportation, social environment and service accessibility, and barrier-free training.

Yang Yang said that barrier-free construction, as the basic supporting facility of the Winter Paralympic Games, reflects the highest standards and level of barrier-free construction in China, and is one of the valuable Olympic legacies, which is worth vigorously promoting and popularizing to the whole society. The construction of barrier-free facilities and the provision of a convenient lifestyle are necessary for social development and need to be planned and implemented as soon as possible.

She suggested that learning from the barrier-free infrastructure construction and service standards of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games should be improved and improved, and the barrier-free facilities and service standards should be included in the standards for the construction of public facilities; the need groups such as the disabled should be taken as the center, and the full participation of the user groups should be ensured in the whole process of design and construction, and their suggestions and opinions should be listened to; and the wonderful performance of the disabled athletes in the Winter Paralympic Games should be used to enhance the public's awareness and concern for the construction of barrier-free construction Pay attention to the long-term maintenance and sustainable use of barrier-free facilities, promote the participation of people with disabilities in sports with the help of barrier-free construction heritage, and promote the construction of barrier-free sports environments for people with disabilities.

Continue to promote the development of youth ice and snow sports

China has achieved the goal of "bringing 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports", and the number of participants in ice and snow sports in the country has reached 346 million. At present, there are 835 Olympic and Paralympic education demonstration schools and 2,062 ice and snow sports characteristic schools in the country. Yang Yang suggested taking multiple measures at the same time to consolidate and expand the achievements of the Winter Olympic Games and continue to promote the participation of young people in ice and snow sports.

The first is to ensure the continuity and long-term nature of the existing policies related to youth ice and snow sports, and introduce new policies that continue to be promoted. The second is to continue to promote the construction of ice and snow sports clubs in schools at all levels, introduce encouraging policies, explore a sustainable campus ice and snow club construction model that includes the participation of schools, parents, clubs and other parties, and continue to promote the creation of ice and snow sports characteristic schools. The third is to establish and improve the ice and snow sports league system from primary schools, junior high schools, high schools to universities, and provide channels and platforms for young people participating in ice and snow sports to continue to participate. The fourth is to improve and develop the ice and snow sports association system at all levels, train ice and snow sports coaching talents, improve industry standards, and ensure the healthy and orderly development of ice and snow sports.
