It is said that robbing a tomb is to seek wealth, generally only take the property in the ancient tomb, and will not do insulting the body of the tomb owner, which is not only taboo but also respect for the deceased. But there are some people who not only do illegal things, but also vent their emotions on the owner of the tomb.
The incident occurred in the Jingmen area of Hubei Province in 1994, which was the ancient capital of the Chu State during the Warring States period, and there were more than 300 Chu tombs of various sizes, of which the Jishan Ancient Tomb Group was still well preserved after more than 2300 years. However, in the 1990s, some cultural relics dealers carried bundles of banknotes and went to the countryside to lure villagers to rob tombs, and they were like the sudden appearance of "god of wealth", which made the villagers restless. "To raise the water (to make money), to find the dead ghost (dig an ancient tomb)" has become a popular local slip of the tongue. At that time, some villagers found a large tomb in a golden rape flower field in Sifang Township, Shayang District, which was the "Guo Jiagang No. 1 Tomb", and then this tomb suffered unprecedented disasters.
Since February 22, 1994, several waves of villagers have been involved in tomb robbery. Nine people, led by villager Li Lixin, dug up the tomb of "Guo Jiagang No. 1" and stole 205 precious cultural relics such as tomb beasts and bronze dings from the town, and sold them for more than 20,000 yuan. The next day, Guo Shouping and four villagers stole cultural relics such as leather drums, bronze birds, and bronze spears, and sold them for 13,000 yuan. After a few days they were not satisfied, Guo Shouping and the veteran tomb robber Li Yihai and others entered the ancient tomb again, but the valuable cultural relics were stolen clean, this time looking for half a day to find a rotten wooden barrel, several tomb robbers were busy working for half a day without harvest, the mood was very unhappy, they were evil to the side of the bold, staring at the coffin that they did not dare to move.
For the sake of money, and not to be afraid, the villagers used a board axe to split the coffin seven or eight inches thick, and then took a flashlight to take a picture inside, a female ancient corpse with a complete face appeared in front of them, its figure was well-proportioned and slender, there was no slightest decay, and the skin was still elastic, and the limbs and joints could be bent, which frightened the villagers who took the lead to retreat. But Li Yihai's eyes lit up, because he found that the female corpse's hair was intact, and there was a hairpin on it, which should be valuable, so he was the first to extend his hand and pulled off the bundle of hair that had been preserved for more than 2300 years. Then there was a flurry of digging in the open mouth of the ancient corpse, but no imaginary treasure was found, so he even more frantically ripped off the silk on the female corpse, dragged and kicked the female corpse, and rudely dragged it to another robbery hole 30 meters away, threw it into a hole full of water to bury, and destroyed the body of the old ancestor who had been lying quietly for thousands of years.
The tomb robbers did not find anything valuable, so they took the corpse of the ancestor to vent their anger, which was really outrageous, and even the archaeologists who rushed to carry out rescue excavations were angry: "It is too inhuman to insult the female corpse like this!" "It took the archaeological team 39 days to find the hole where the female body was hidden, although it was still not decomposed, but the body was blackened, scarred, there were strangles on the neck, the hair was all gone, the skin on the body was extensively damaged, and many bones were pulled off. This warring states female corpse is more than 100 years earlier than The Mawangdui "Lady Xin Chai", and is the earliest ancient corpse found on the mainland so far that the shape, skin, and bones are completely preserved, and it has immeasurable historical, medical and other research value, but it has been destroyed in this way, which is really sad.
