It can be seen that when 5G mobile phones began to spread, MediaTek seized this market opportunity that can only wait for decades, and quickly stabilized the low-end market by launching a series of cheap but excellent performance products.
But MediaTek's problem is also here, its launch of products are still more to seize the low-end market, the performance in the high-end market is not optimistic, even if it was released last year's quasi-flagship Tianji 1200, compared with competitors still have a certain gap.
Chips such as Snapdragon 888, Kirin 9000 and Apple A14, which are contemporaneous with Tianji 1200, all use the most advanced 5nm process technology, while Tianji 1200 can only use 6nm process, which is essentially the ultimate version of the 7nm process.
MediaTek did not arrange a more advanced 5nm process for the Tianji 1200, the author believes that the main purpose is to control the cost, because the price of the 5nm process is significantly higher, so that mediatek's price advantage will be significantly weakened.
But it is also because of this reason that the flagship products launched by MediaTek in the past two years have always been suppressed by competitors, but in 2022, the situation may have to change.
Previously, MediaTek released the Tianji 9000 chip, and the official introduction said that this chip has achieved ten global firsts, and is the first chip using TSMC's 4nm process, directly benchmarking Apple A15 and Snapdragon 8 Gen1.
But unfortunately, the competing chips have already shipped tens of millions of pieces, and the Tianji 9000 is still not mass-produced, which makes many consumers who are very much looking forward to this chip feel a little disappointed.
Fortunately, MediaTek has made rapid adjustments, and recently released the positioning of the flagship Tianji 8000 series chips, including Tianji 8000 and Tianji 8100 products, both using TSMC 5nm manufacturing process.
That is to say, the Tianji 8000 series is the first 5nm chip launched by MediaTek, and with the blessing of more advanced technology, it will certainly be able to greatly improve the performance and efficiency of this chip, so that MediaTek can successfully enter the high-end market.
The author understands that the CPU of the Tianji 8000 chip is eight cores, including 4 2.75GHz A78 large cores and 4 2.0GHz A55 small cores, as well as 4MB level three cache.
The GPU is a six-core Mali-G610, and the fifth-generation AI processor APU 580, including two performance cores, a general-purpose core, integrated HyperEngine 5.0 optimization engine, with low power consumption, low latency and free control tuning and other highlights.
On this basis, the more high-end Tianji 8100 increased the large core frequency to 2.85GHz, and the GPU frequency increased by 20%, and the APU large core frequency increased by 25%.
Officials said that the Tianji 8100 will be 12% higher than the CPU multi-core performance and multi-core energy efficiency of the same level chip Snapdragon 888; GPU performance is 4% higher and energy efficiency is 35%higher; APU AI energy efficiency benchmark test is 39% higher, background bokeh effect test performance is 62% higher, and energy efficiency is 72% higher.
Therefore, on the whole, the performance of the Tianji 8000 series will definitely not be bad, and more importantly, unlike the Tianji 9000 is a "PPT chip", the Tianji 8000 series will soon be applied to terminal products.
According to the plan, Xiaomi's Redmi brand will release a new K50 product this month, and this phone will debut with the Tianji 8100, helping MediaTek to stand firm in the high-end market.
