Qualcomm Technologies also highlighted today the Snapdragon Automotive Connected Application Framework, an integrated application framework for the development of in-vehicle connected and cloud-connected applications and services. At the same time, the new Wi-Fi 6E automotive chipset is introduced, designed to bring higher bandwidth to Wi-Fi applications and support content delivery at unmatched speeds.

With Qualcomm Technologies' long history of providing automotive connectivity solutions to the transportation industry, these latest enhancements help automakers redefine the driving experience for consumers, while also opening up new opportunities for the automotive ecosystem to develop and deliver revenue-generating digital services.

Nakul Duggal, senior vice president and general manager of automotive business at Qualcomm Technologies, said:

Qualcomm Technologies understands that automakers need unique and complete networking solutions to meet evolving demands and empower the cars of the twenty-first century. By expanding our in-car connectivity offerings, we are providing a transformative and scalable suite of solutions for Snapdragon digital chassis that we believe the automotive industry will leverage to create an unmatched next-generation driving experience that meets customer expectations."

Connection as a Service

To support a highly customized user experience that can be continuously updated throughout the car's lifecycle, Snapdragon brings a seamless way to cloud services that extend system performance and features while enabling new digital services. Connect-as-a-Service extends these capabilities by enabling global connectivity through built-in Snapdragon's in-vehicle networked System-on-Chip (SoC) modules and API-enabled developer environments to create enhanced applications/services based on the end side and cloud. Supported by connected car telemetry data and advanced data analysis, tools available in the developer environment help automakers address the complexities of creating connected services on in-vehicle hardware. Qualcomm Technologies highlights the following new technology collaborations to support connectivity-as-a-service and new technology features and digital services for global markets. These new collaborations include:

· Cognizant, a leading professional services firm, helps automakers transform into modern enterprises with its global automotive cloud technology and terminal expertise. Leveraging its deep understanding of the automotive industry and proven reusable components, as well as ready-to-use test frameworks and system integration expertise, Cognizant will work with Qualcomm Technologies to integrate and customize Snapdragon vehicle-to-cloud services for automakers, designed to deliver rich, personalized in-car experiences, new connected solutions, and better on-demand services.

· Cubic Telecom, an award-winning global provider of connectivity solutions. Based on the solution created by Snapdragon for cloud services and Cubic's software products (Pace, Insights and PLCOR), it provides fast-to-use single-point control for NAD modules using high-speed on-board networked SoCs, as well as supporting data and service support. The solution also addresses the complexity of regional regulations with built-in cross-regional market compliance capabilities.

Vehicle networking application framework

The Snapdragon In-Vehicle Connected Application Framework integrated into snapdragon automotive connected platforms is used to simplify application development. This set of open source and extensible software tools is designed to support seamless connectivity with Snapdragon's cloud services, allowing automotive developers to take advantage of the in-vehicle connectivity capabilities of all platforms of Snapdragon Digital Chassis. Through the Snapdragon In-Vehicle Connected Application Framework, developers can use common APIs in a unified development environment, reducing the cost and complexity of integrating technical features such as 5G, location services, memory, and security into cloud applications and services.

To address fragmentation and enable universal application development across automotive product lines, snapdragon's in-vehicle connected application framework is compatible with platforms in current and future Snapdragon digital chassis. The new application framework is expected to be available in early 2022, with continuous enhancements to new features and services, allowing developers to focus on their core expertise when creating apps that use in-vehicle connectivity, bringing a safer and richer immersive experience to today's cars.

Wi-Fi 6E automotive chipset

In order to provide higher bandwidth for networked applications and services, Qualcomm Technologies has introduced the Qualcomm QCA6698AQ, a Wi-Fi 6E 4 dual-band concurrent and Bluetooth 5.3 combo chip for automotive applications. Based on the latest Qualcomm FastConnect mobile connectivity system, the Qualcomm QCA6698AQ supports 802.11ax dual MAC in parallel operation at 2.4GHz and the extended 5GHz/6GHz band, achieving industry-leading Wi-Fi speeds in AEC-Q100 certified terminals. To meet the complex demands of today's rapidly changing automotive ecosystem, the Qualcomm QCA6698AQ is designed to deliver rich in-car entertainment and superior audio experiences, as well as significantly increased bandwidth for Wi-Fi concurrent applications. The product is currently in sample and is expected to pass vehicle grade certification later in 2022.
