In 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed.

Among the many countries separated from the former Soviet Union, Ukraine is second only to Russia.

During the Soviet period, Ukraine's total output value ranked second in the world, machinery manufacturing, aerospace industry, etc. were mainly concentrated in Ukraine, and the living conditions of the Ukrainian people were very superior.

Ukraine has a large number of heavy industries and technicians in the Soviet period, which could have developed very well, but after Ukraine's independence, its GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT fell sharply due to the imbalance in the proportion of industry and agriculture, the irrational industrial structure, and the militarization of the national economy.

But Ukraine also opted for "shock therapy," which brought Ukraine to a collapse.

In order to avoid being annexed by Russia again, Ukraine has turned to the West in an all-round way, because of the Crimea issue, Ukraine and Russia often clashed.

In 2014, Crimea held a referendum to declare its secession from Ukraine and join Russia, followed by a referendum in the two eastern ukrainian states to declare the establishment of a republic, and Ukraine fell into a state of disintegration for a time.

Ukraine has always wanted to join NATO, and Russia will never allow NATO to expand to its doorstep.

Ukraine is therefore in a really precarious situation.
