Every Sunday morning, there is always a wonderful classical concert waiting for you in Shanghai", "over the city" or in the concert hall. Regular frequencies, public ticket prices, and the convenience of being heard anywhere make classical music a "beauty" that everyone can have. Therefore, the "Weekly Radio Concert" (hereinafter referred to as the Star Broadcasting Concert) is also affectionately called "the highest 50 yuan consumption in Shanghai's happiness index" by the old audience, and is voted by netizens as one of the "99 reasons to love Shanghai".
Founded in 1982, the Star Broadcasting Club has led many listeners to enter the door of classical music with in-depth and simple interpretation through excellent orchestras and musicians. Today, the 40th anniversary of the Star Market will release its latest season, a "time-honored" music brand that will further enhance the quality of popular classical music and inject more vitality into Shanghai, a philharmonic city.
It is reported that star broadcasting will launch a new late edition master class series, talented teenager series, youth support program and 12-hour special edition weekly radio concert and other performances and activities. "We hope to open up a new model for the popularization of classics for the future, with more emphasis on the concept of layering – not limited to the audience that used to come to the morning concert at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, but also to explore more classical music varieties to choose from, so that the coverage of fans is getting wider and wider; and the concept of incubation is more prominent - customized concerts for potential young musicians, starting from a smaller venue, and may also go out of Shanghai tour when mature." He Hongliu, deputy director of Shanghai People's Radio Classic 947 and head of the Star Broadcasting Association, said.
Three outstanding Chinese conductors turned into hosts, and the lectures combined with close contact with music fans
Over the years, the slogan of "entering the classical music, starting from the weekly radio concert" has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, and the expert host has interspersed the in-depth and simple explanation between the tracks, which has become a major feature of the Star Broadcasting Club and continues to this day. This year, Star Broadcasting will upgrade this "explanation + concert" model again, launching the "Master Class Series", inviting three influential conductors in China to become hosts, personally dismantling the music code of classic creations from their subjective perspectives, and cooperating with the band to explain while performing. These three "Master Class Series" will be presented in the form of the late edition of the Star Club, which is different from the previous early edition and also provides more time and content options for the philharmonics.
In the first performance, Xu Zhong, director and conductor of the Shanghai Opera House, led the Shanghai Opera House to push open the door of opera for the audience, and explored the style of Italian opera through the overture and singing of verdi and Bellini's classic opera. In addition, Xu Zhong, a pianist by training, will personally play and conduct Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, a master class to appreciate the excitement of the two musical genres.
In the second performance, conductor Zhang Guoyong will lead the Shanghai Opera House Symphony Orchestra to bring an appreciation of Russian symphonic works, Zhang Guoyong is currently recognized as the best interpreter of Shostakovich's symphony in China, and he will lead the audience into the original Russian style and unveil this gorgeous musical veil.
The third Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra Artistic Director and conductor Zhang Yi will lead the Philharmonic to bring the "Round Dance" special concert, as the music director of the National Ballet of China for many years Zhang Yi is well versed in the mysteries of dance in music, he from the genre of "Round Dance" as the starting point, telling the popular secret of the round dance in the Vienna New Year's Concert, and will dig deeper into the origin of the Johann Strauss family's round dance and Richard Strauss's round dance.
For this popular form, Shen Shuqiang, director of the Art Management Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, has a deep feeling. "It's reminiscent of leonard Bernstein, a conductor, composer and educator, who collaborated with CBS Radio to start the 'Concerts for Young People' series as a conductor and lecturer as early as 1958, which debuted on television." This music education program, which was broadcast to many countries for 46 years and had a total of 53 performances, not only greatly promoted the popularity of classical music, but also made Bernstein still a sought after idol today. Shen Shuqiang believes that at present, Xingguang will invite domestic conductors to carry out the "Master Class Series", which can allow more music fans and Excellent Chinese Conductors to have close contact.

Their indissoluble relationship with the Hoshihirokai
The companionship and growth of generations of philharmonic listeners, the dreams and efforts of generations of musicians, and the sweat and youth of generations of broadcasters have jointly created the enduring vitality and influence of Xingguanghui. Here, Wen Wei Po reporters sorted out the mental journeys of several Star Broadcasting Association participants and performers - in their stories, we can see how Shanghai has become today's Philharmonic City.
Wang Yong, an expert host who is loved by music fans and dean of the School of Music of Shanghai University:
I joined Star Club in 2005 and it's been 17 years now. What supports me to become a "nail household" stationed on this stage? Not only the inertia in life, but also because I watched a group of music fans gradually grow, the classical music market share continues to increase, and the industry develops rapidly, which makes me feel that it is meaningful to continue to do it.
At the beginning of its establishment, the brand of Xingguanghui was aimed at such a super-large population city as Shanghai, and there was no model to copy. In my opinion, an important indicator of a city's degree of civilization is that people's need to appreciate art can be taken care of, whether the art is loved by the public or loved by the minority. According to the statistics I have done, more than ten years ago, the number of music fans who watched more than six classical concerts a year should not exceed 10,000, and now this number may have doubled or even more than ten times; and the number of classical music performances is three or four times that of more than ten years ago.
With more and more fans now, having been hosting for so long, 2022 is also a watershed for me – the biggest challenge is to balance the needs of new listeners and old fans. For example, for the old audience who listened to dr. Wang's explanation a dozen years ago, I need to give them a new amount of information; for new listeners who don't know much about classical music, I also need to try more new ideas.
Zhang Runwei, Young Teacher of the Orchestra Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Guest Principal of Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra:
This stage recorded my youth. The first time I came to perform at the Star Club, I was a student at Shangyin Annex, and I played Vivaldi's "Four Seasons and Winter". This is the first time I have truly reached out to audiences in society, interacted with them, and communicated with them. Through their expressions, it stimulated my self-confidence and made me have a great yearning for the stage.
The picture shows the 2012 Star Broadcasting Club, and Zhang Runwei, an outstanding student of Shangyin Attached Middle School, is walking on the stage.
Now I am on the stage as the Principal Guest of the Shanghai Philharmonic, and I will perform high-grade, in-depth music, including Wagner's works, which is loved by music "audiophiles". From this change, it can be found that Xingguanghui is not only doing entry-level music popularization, but also witnessing the continuous improvement of the taste of music fans.
Many Western countries will worry, where is the future of classical music? What if young people don't enter the concert hall? But from my observation, I saw that many young parents brought their children to listen to the Star Broadcasting Club, and the children were particularly patient and focused on looking at the various voice parts - which made me feel particularly shocked and proud, which is the embodiment of the national cultivation of our country and the improvement of soft power in our city.
Editor of Xingguanghui Li Changyi:
Since the first issue after the rebroadcast in 2004, I have been the editor of Star Broadcasting Club and have a deep affection for this brand. The music reviews of the Star Broadcasting Club and the subtitles of the track introductions played on the side screen on the spot are actually the characteristics of the Star Broadcasting Club programs. As an editor, I hope to use my professional knowledge reserves and unique perspectives to record the excitement of the concert scene, the music and the interpretive characteristics of the artists in the form of music reviews, so that the audience who cannot go to the scene can understand the concert, and also give the artists a record and feedback on growing up on the stage.
Yes, Shanghai can become a city of philharmonic music, inseparable from the efforts of every person in the city.
