Musk: We're working on Steam games to run on Tesla cars

In response to a question from game journalist Ryan McCaffrey on Twitter about whether Cyberpunk will appear on the Model S and Model X in the future, Musk said that the company's goal is not to port individual games to the car's infotainment system, but hopes to let owners play all the games on Steam in the future, which is more in the long-term interest.

While earlier versions of Tesla's infotainment system used Intel Atom CPUs, the company has begun swapping out the latest AMD's Ryzen chipset to deliver higher performance. Tests have shown that the new AMD-based hardware can perform routine tasks on touchscreens at 3-4x faster speeds. Tesla claims that the performance of the new processor is comparable to that of the Playstation 5.

Tesla's infotainment system runs a custom Linux operating system and relies on the CPU architecture familiar to the desktop PC field. So, of course, it's possible to get a bunch of games on Steam running. Tesla's goal is to make a large number of Steam games run in its vehicles without the need for developers to specifically port them or modify them to make them work on the car.
