Haikou, Wanning, Lingshui, Baisha, Wuzhishan... Nine state-level sports training bases throughout Hainan Island are popular.

The Wuzhishan Sports Training Base is the base camp for the annual winter training of many national sports teams. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the national team trained in Haikou, where Hainan was the first to build a state-level winter training base. Zhou Yuanguo, head coach of the national sailing and windsurfing team, said that Haikou provides a good wind guarantee for training, and the temperature in winter is suitable, coupled with the construction of perfect base facilities and strong local support, so that the national team comes here every year for winter training.
