In February, NHTSA issued three recalls against Tesla in the first four days of the month: seatbelt alerts on Feb. 1, windshield defrost issues on Feb. 2, and issues related to pedestrian warning systems on Feb. 4.
Although Tesla has made four recalls, it is not the manufacturer with the most recalls. In fact, Tesla is just one of three car companies that will be recalled four times by NHTSA in 2022, along with Jayco, Inc. and Altec Industries, Inc. Jayco manufactures recreational vehicles, including trailers; Altec develops bucket lifts and other products for the installation of telecommunications equipment, electrical facilities, tree care, and lighting and sign installation.
The only manufacturer with more recalls than Tesla, Jayco and Altec is Forest River, Inc., a manufacturer of recreational vehicles, freight and utility trailers, floats and buses.
Domestically, according to the state administration of market regulation information, in 2022 Tesla was only recalled once, the reason for the recall is: some vehicles within the scope of the recall of the heat pump electronic expansion valve positioning will have a slight movement, because the software (2021.44 to 2021.44.30.6 version) has no correction function, long-term may cause the valve to partially open, the heat pump compressor to stop working, the heating function in the car fails. In the above state, especially when the temperature outside the car is lower than minus 10 degrees, the windshield defrosting system cannot achieve the defrosting effect stipulated by the relevant national laws and regulations, and the decline of the defrost function adversely affects the driver's field of vision, thereby increasing the possibility of collision risk of the vehicle when driving in cold weather, and there is a safety hazard. The recall covers a total of 26,047 domestically produced Model 3 (12,003) and Model Y (14,044) electric vehicles manufactured between December 28, 2020 and January 15, 2022.
