Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology once again issued a document to regulate the application software preset behavior of mobile intelligent terminals. The Notice on Further Regulating the PresetTing Behavior of Mobile Smart Terminal Application Software (Draft for Solicitation of Comments) (hereinafter referred to as the "Draft for Comments") clearly requires that mobile smart terminal manufacturers should ensure that preset application software other than basic functional software can be uninstalled, and provide safe and convenient uninstallation methods for users to choose. At the same time, at most one of the preset applications that implement the same basic functionality can be set to be non-uninstallable.
What is Basic Functional Software? The Draft for Comments delineates the following scope:
(1) The basic components of the operating system: system settings, file management;
(2) Applications to ensure the normal operation of intelligent terminal hardware: multimedia recording;
(3) Basic communication applications: receiving and receiving phone calls, sending and receiving text messages, address books, and browsers;
(4) Application software download channel: Application Store.
Actual measurement: There are as many as 56 pre-installed software for Android mobile phone brands
In the two mobile phone systems (iOS system, Android system) that are currently used more on the market and Huawei's HarmonyOS system, which system pre-installed software occupies more memory? How do mobile phone brands perform on pre-installed software? Nandu reporters visited offline stores and tested mobile phones of mainstream brands such as Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO, vivo, and glory.
On the whole, in mobile phone brands using Android systems, the system occupies about 16G of memory, while the iOS and HarmonyOS systems occupy about 7G of memory. In Android systems with a large memory footprint, the number of pre-installed applications (including basic functional classes and third-party applications) of each mobile phone brand ranges from 10-50 to more, and some brands even have as many as 56 pre-installed applications.
A mobile phone industry insider told Nandu reporter that the real basic functional software actually occupies no large space, such as text messages generally only account for a few hundredk, and more browsers are only more than a hundred trillion.
Why can't I remove this software? Industry insiders said that "for example, the camera function of the mobile phone itself, it is to be deeply adapted and adjusted in the system development stage, each model of the machine must be a separate set of systems, if it is removed and then installed with a third-party camera, there may be unstable situations." However, in addition to this application related to the development of the underlying system, weather, calendar, calculator, compass, mobile phone butler, etc. are pre-installed third-party software and should be removable. ”
Most phones are pre-installed with applications that implement the same basic functionality
It is worth noting that Nandu reporters saw in the test that each Android mobile phone is pre-installed with two applications, "Game Center" and "Application Store", which actually belong to the preset application software that realizes the same basic function. The reporter tested and saw that any few games in the "Game Center" were randomly selected, and they could be searched and downloaded in the "App Store".
"Game Center" can be clicked to see a variety of mobile game applications, its independent existence, to a certain extent, has become a "time bomb" to induce minors to indulge in games. Earlier, Mr. Chen, a citizen of Shenzhen, broke the news to the Nandu reporter that his 11-year-old child was attracted after inadvertently seeing the "game center" when he used his grandmother's mobile phone to take online lessons, downloaded a game inside and secretly spent nearly two thousand yuan.
Can this Game Center be uninstalled now? Nandu reporter saw that in the test of Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO, vivo, Glory, Samsung and other brands of mobile phones, most of the brand of mobile phones pre-installed "game center" can now be uninstalled by themselves, but there are still a few brands of mobile phones can not be uninstalled.
In addition, there are some pre-installed music and video apps, and some brands of mobile phones cannot be uninstalled. Nandu reporter saw that a brand of mobile phone only pre-installed music APP (excluding the generated data) to occupy 488M space. The above-mentioned mobile phone industry insiders told Nandu reporter, "If some brands bring their own music APP can not be deleted, it should be out of the consideration of the business terms they have signed, which are bound to the contracts of some partners." ”
During the test, the reporter also saw that some mobile phone brands did not clearly mark the space occupied by the system itself, but only marked the remaining space or data occupied by the user.
The game has a variety of game applications in mind.
Uninstalling pre-installed software moved the phone manufacturer's cake?
In fact, as early as December 16, 2016, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the Interim Regulations on the Administration of Mobile Intelligent Terminal Application Software Provisioning and Distribution, requiring production enterprises and Internet information service providers to ensure that mobile intelligent terminal application software other than basic functional software can be uninstalled, and without affecting the safe use of mobile intelligent terminals, resource files, configuration files and user data files attached to the software should also be easily uninstalled.
But even so, many of the pre-installed software and the resulting data cannot be uninstalled or deleted. Some mobile phone users said that although some software has an "uninstall" option, it displays "system problems cause uninstallation failures" during operation.
Why is pre-installed software difficult to uninstall, and does the request to uninstall move the "cake" of mobile phone manufacturers? A mobile phone manufacturer told Nandu reporter that the income brought by pre-installation is actually not the current main profit model, the current mobile phone companies mainly rely on long-term Internet income, generally can be divided into three categories: e-commerce, games (such as recharge, buy equipment, etc.) and value-added services (such as members, cloud services, etc.).
However, industry insiders said that after apps such as "Game Center" are required to be uninstalled, they may lose a part of the revenue from Game Center. For third-party application software companies, the profits brought by pre-installed software are missing, and they may turn to other advertising channels in the future.
