The situation in Hefei is similar, according to the Jianghuai Morning Post, hefei Civil Affairs Bureau data show that a total of 57,166 marriages were registered in 2021, a decrease of 6.6% compared with the total number of marriage registrations in 2020. From the perspective of annual trends, the number of marriage registrations in Hefei has shown a downward trend year by year in the past 8 years.

From the perspective of registration age, the average age of first marriage in Jiangsu Province in 2021 is 27.29 years old, of which 28 years old for men and 26.52 years old for women. Why is the marriage rate showing a downward trend year by year?
On February 17, Professor Su Jian, director of the National Economic Research Center at Peking University, told Health Times that the decline in the marriage rate may have many reasons.
On the one hand, the aging of the population, the decrease in young people, and the overall decrease in the age group suitable for marriage, which in turn leads to a decrease in the marriage rate. Data released by the National Health Commission at a press conference on January 20 showed that women aged 20-34 have decreased by an average of 3.4 million per year, and 4.73 million fewer in 2021 than in 2020.
The second is the change in the concept of marriage and love between men and women of the right age. Professor Su said that the higher cost of childbearing, parenting and education has led to a decrease in the willingness to have children, and then the demand for marriage has also decreased. In addition, young people's lifestyles and attitudes have changed, such as the pursuit of diversified life, and fertility is no longer a necessity but an option.
The decline in divorce rates in many places is significant, which may be related to the "divorce cooling-off period"
In 2021, a total of 16,851 couples in Hefei handled divorces, a drop of more than 50% compared with 34,591 couples in the same period of 2020, reaching 51.29%.
In 2021, Jiangsu Province completed the divorce registration 134943 pairs, which was 42.45% lower than that in 2020 (234497 pairs). The specific circumstances are that in 2021, Jiangsu Province accepted 240435 pairs of divorce registration applications, and completed divorce registration 134943 pairs, accounting for 56.12% of the total number of divorce registration applications; 36.45% of those who voluntarily withdraw or overdue during the cooling-off period are regarded as withdrawals, and another 7.43% have not yet been completed due to the cooling-off period for divorce or the registration and issuance period.

According to Article 1077 of the Civil Code, the cooling-off period for divorce is within 30 days from the date of registration of the application, and any party who does not wish to divorce may withdraw the application. Within 30 days after the expiration of the application period, both parties shall personally apply to the marriage registration office for the issuance of a divorce certificate, and those who do not apply shall be deemed to have withdrawn the application for divorce registration. The regulation came into effect on January 1, 2021.
