Recently, in order to build a new energy vehicle factory, India and the United States new energy giant Tesla is "back and forth". Tesla hopes that Indian officials can make concessions on the import tax on energy vehicles; India requires Tesla to achieve local production, preferably to build a new energy vehicle factory in India.
At present, Tesla has 4 factories around the world, 2 in the United States, and 2 in Berlin, Germany, and Shanghai, China. I don't know whether I feel "impossible" or "difficult to do", Musk seems to want to move his mouth and negotiate with the Indian official, and has not actually taken action until now.
On February 16, local time, Indian officials came out to call Tesla, hoping that Tesla could purchase 500 million US dollars (3.16 billion yuan) of auto parts in India. At the same time, Indian officials also revealed that Tesla has actually met the "Factory Building Incentives" (PLI plan) previously issued by India, but Tesla has not launched any application so far.
It is reported that India's PLI incentive plan can provide up to 18% discount to enterprises, and there are currently nearly 20 companies willing to join this plan, including Dai Auto India, Suzuki Motors Gujarat and so on. However, Tesla is clamoring for India to cut taxes, but the matter of building a factory is "careless".
Remember, India's xenophobia against overseas car brands is particularly severe, with slightly more expensive cars (more than $40,000) paying 100% import fees. But given Tesla's strong ability to attract foreign investment, the Indian government is also well aware that it can attract Tesla to set up factories in India and boost the country's economic performance. To put it bluntly, as long as Tesla has a word, the matter of India's tax cuts has become simple. So, is it possible that India and Tesla will eventually agree?
