A few days ago, at the special press conference on the construction of Beijing's global digital economy benchmark city held by the Beijing News Center in 2022, Jie Fei, executive deputy director of the Beijing High-level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone Work Office, said that the Beijing High-level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone will start the construction of the 3.0 stage this year.

Jiefei introduced that the 1.0 stage of the high-level automatic driving demonstration area has completed the construction of intelligent network infrastructure with a total length of 12.1 kilometers of urban roads + 10 kilometers of highways, and innovated the first "multi-pole integration, multi-sensor integration, multi-box integration" intelligent network standardized intersection construction scheme in China.

The construction of the demonstration area phase 2.0 focuses on the core area of the economic development zone of 60 square kilometers and a total of 305 intersections to achieve full coverage of intelligent networked road infrastructure, providing vehicle-road cloud integration technology research and development and function verification scenarios for high-level automatic driving test vehicles and networked mass production vehicles.

Beijing has set up the Beijing Intelligent Connected Vehicle Policy Pilot Zone, and has taken the lead in releasing a number of innovative policies in the country, such as morning and evening peak tests, highway tests, unmanned tests, and pilot projects for the commercialization of travel services. A total of 225 intelligent network test license plates have been issued, including 120 passenger car test number plates, 86 unmanned delivery vehicle body codes, 4 highway test number plates, 15 unmanned road test number plates, and the demonstration area participated in the enterprise automatic driving test mileage of more than 3.24 million kilometers, accounting for more than 70% of the city.

In terms of commercialization of application scenarios, the pilot commercialization of autonomous driving travel services has been opened, and the cumulative number of service trips has exceeded 80,000. Unmanned delivery scenarios have realized the actual operation of fresh distribution and express delivery, and are gradually expanding the scope of application. Scenarios such as unmanned retail, autonomous police patrols, microcirculation connections and park rovers have also entered the public.

Jiefei said that in the next stage, the demonstration area will continue to summarize the previous construction experience and start the construction of the 3.0 stage within the year. Continue to promote policy and management model innovation, and continue to promote the implementation of various commercialization scenarios for autonomous driving.

In terms of accelerating the construction of a standard system, the demonstration area will explore the formation of technical standards in automotive technology, roadside facilities, cloud control basic platform, private communication network, basic map, safety management, etc., summarize and sort out the "Beijing model" that forms the city-level application of intelligent networked vehicles, and replicate and promote experience.

In the future, the demonstration zone will also set up a special fund for intelligent and connected vehicles, formulate special policies, and focus on "card neck" technologies such as chips and operating systems to promote the incremental development of intelligent and connected vehicle-related industries in the region.
