During the 2022 Lantern Festival, artist Qiu Zhijie's new series of "Writing Plans" - "Enigma Confidence - Yongqingfang Lantern Festival" was presented in Yongqingfang, Guangzhou, reinterpreting the traditional Lantern Festival in the way of young people's "dialogue". The exhibition is presented in a flash mob format and lasts for five days.
According to Qiu Zhijie, more than three hundred of the eight hundred riddles produced are self-made, most of which are more suitable for the preferences of young people. From February 12th to 16th, while visiting the lantern festival, watch the lanterns, take photos of the lanterns that guess the answer, and go to the designated place to receive the lantern riddle red envelope.
Qiu Zhijie is a famous artist and curator. Creative activities involve calligraphy, ink painting, photography, video, installation, theater and other methods. He represents a new attempt to communicate the Chinese literati tradition with contemporary art, to communicate social care and the power of personal liberation of art. He is currently the Dean and Professor of the School of Experimental Art of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and the Professor of the School of Cross-media Art of the China Academy of Art.
The exhibition is the second stop of the "Writing Project", the first stop was during last year's Labor Day, Qiu Zhijie won the first place in the "National Top Ten Cultural and Creative Events" in the first "Market Writing" "People's Food for The Sky" at the Sanyuanli Vegetable Market in Beijing, and won the first place in the "National Top Ten Cultural and Creative Events" with the creativity of art into life.
"Xiguan", as a gathering place for merchants and literati of "Department Store, City of Five Capitals", condenses the prosperity of Guangzhou City, and with the development and construction of the city, it has formed a unique Xiguan architectural style characteristics, literati and cultural stories, retaining the memory and personality of Guangzhou City.
The second stop of the "Writing Plan" landed in the area of the former site of Xiguan, which has a great cultural heritage, and was carried out in the Yongqingfang Block of Enning Road, the gathering place of buildings such as the Arcade Building, the Xiguan House, and the Green Brick Lane, transforming the art of writing into a riddle installation, starting from the "Qiu Zhu Shangyuan Lantern Color Map" in the year of the Tiger, in a contemporary way, re-writing the poems, songs, and anagrams of lovers from ancient times to the present, and revitalizing the locality of traditional festivals, the richness of cultural connotations, and the fun of calligraphy in cultural activities.
The so-called "Qiu Zhu Shangyuan Lantern Project" is a large-scale comprehensive art project. Starting from the Ming Dynasty's Shangyuan Lantern Color Map, it includes a series of art forms such as writing, painting, installation and theater performance.
"We hope that through this writing, we can trigger a new imagination of the younger generation for folk activities and give new vitality to new traditional festivals." Curator Zhang Weina introduced that the exhibition was jointly presented by Guangzhou Yongqingfang and Beijing Dreamside Culture.
The exhibition space runs through the east and west blocks of Yongqingfang and is divided into multiple groups of lantern art installations. The artist guides the audience into the art installation in a "dialogue" manner, and approaches the audience with different forms of new flower lanterns. In the process of wandering the old neighborhood, feel the romance of the Upper Yuan Lantern.
