The City of Sydney invited young artists to participate in the 2023 Year of the Rabbit Painting Competition

People's Daily Sydney, May 4 (Li Hanyue) The Sydney City Government has announced that the 2023 Sydney Lunar Festival will be held from January 21 to February 5, 2023 to celebrate the arrival of the Chinese Year of the Rabbit. Recently, the City of Sydney invited young artists aged five to twelve to participate in the 2023 Rabbit Year Painting Competition. Five children's works will be selected and made into lanterns to be exhibited at various locations across Sydney as part of the 2023 Sydney Lunar Festival celebrations.

Sydney Mayor Crawford Moore said the selection of the painting will lead the whole of Sydney to celebrate this most popular family event in a peaceful and joyful atmosphere. "It's perfect to celebrate ancient traditional festivals with the unique perspectives and talents of these young artists, while decorating our city."

"Traditionally, the rabbit is a symbol of good luck and wealth, and our citizens, visitors and businesses are looking forward to more good luck and wealth for a prosperous year, and hope that the economy will recover from the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic as soon as possible," Moore said. ”

It is understood that the 2023 painting competition is a continuation of the 2022 competition. During the Sydney Lunar Festival in the Year of the Tiger, a total of six children's designs were selected and made into flower lanterns, street display boards, bus stop signs, billboards, and electronic content.

Ten-year-old Chloe was very proud to see her "Sleeping Tiger" selected and made into a lunar lantern that was displayed in front of Sydney City Hall during the 2022 Sydney Lunar Festival. "It's amazing to see my paintings turned into lanterns on display in front of city hall, my family and I went to take a lot of pictures, and we were proud to see a lot of people taking pictures with my lanterns." Chloe strongly recommends that everyone else participate in the competition, saying it will be an experience of a lifetime.

The competition will close at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, and not only will the winning entries be on display, but the winner will also receive a gift card worth $150.
