Figure 1 This spacewalk scene, inside the American spacesuit is a Russian astronaut, Yuri Maleenchenko, which is a scene from the September 2000 US space shuttle STS-106 mission.

At that time, the International Space Station was still in its infancy, with Russia's Star Module, Russia's Dawn Module, and the American Unity Module. For Russia, it faces a very awkward situation: the star module has a transit compartment for spacewalks, but for the star capsule to function properly, it must be connected to the dawn module through spacewalks. As a result, this becomes an awkward deadlock situation of chicken or egg first. Thanks to the space shuttle, in the STS-106 mission, after the space shuttle docked with the International Space Station, Yuri Maleenchenko wore the American cabin coat and went out of the capsule with NASA astronaut Lu Jie, who conducted a 6-hour and 14-minute spacewalk, connecting the power, data and communication cables between the star capsule and the dawn module to ensure that the star capsule could be used normally.

It can be seen that the space shuttle plays an indispensable and huge role in the construction of the international space station.
