Read the book | "Grandma and Her House": A Footnote to the Family's Memory era

The book I'm going to share this week is called Grandma and Her House. When I first saw the cover and title, I thought it was a fairy tale, and when I opened it, I found that this book is worth reading, but the title is more likely to be misunderstood. The book is based on a grandmother's story, and the granddaughter asks questions, and the granddaughter gets the answer and then records it.

Why use a house as a thematic cue? That's because the "house" is just a string of life that Grandma and her family struggled for. After all, for many Chinese, improved housing conditions are one of the greatest dividends this era has given us. Therefore, the story that follows the house is not only the common memory of the family, but also the common memory of the era and society.

The reason why this book touched me may also be related to some of the problems that I usually think about. For example, if our children live in cities, how do they imagine their parents playing in the fields or in the alleys of the cities? How do they understand that many of the objects of life that are very common in their eyes are completely unconditionally owned or enjoyed by their parents? How do they understand their homeland, their homeland and their roots? How do you imagine the migration and struggle of your parents, grandparents, and even a previous generation? I think this book actually provides a good practice: it is for the granddaughter to ask questions, get the grandmother's answer, and then record it and sort it out.

I remember in the book, my granddaughter wrote such a passage. She said that there were many words in her grandmother's answer that she could not understand, and if she did not understand, she would check and ask, and after understanding, she would actually understand the past of her family and a period of history. I think that's the legacy. When we say inheritance, it is not only the inheritance of objects, but more importantly, the inheritance of a common family memory, a common spirit of the times and society. This should be very resonant for us who are still in the middle of the Spring Festival.
