Sony updated the store page for Horizon: Forbidden Lands in the West, still pricing the pit

After reports of unclear pricing appeared on some of the game pages last week, Sony has updated the store page for Horizon Forbidden West in the PlayStation store.

Back in September, Sony's decision took a dramatic turn by charging users to upgrade their PS4 copies after horizon: Forbidden Lands, after it had said it would offer free upgrades to its games released across eras.

Sony also confirmed that future cross-era games, including God of War 5 and GT Racing 7, will not offer free upgrades, but will instead charge a £10 upgrade fee as planned.

While this clarification was welcome news at the time, Sony's pricing strategy for the retail version of Horizon: Forbidden Lands in the West remained unclear. Despite the turnaround, Sony didn't adjust the game's pricing to match the free upgrade.

This means that, now, if you don't know that you can redeem and download the PS5 version of the game for free with A PS4 disc, you might pay an extra £10 for a PS5 copy of Horizon: Forbidden Lands. But if you buy a digital version of the game from the PlayStation Store, there's no reason for Sony to charge different prices for the two versions.

Fundamentally, data is data, and whether you choose to spend £59.99 or £69.99, you'll get the exact same game. So, despite a slight tweak to the store page, Sony is still hoodwinking consumers who don't understand the situation.

Even with the changes, the page is still unclear. What is the difference between the Standard Edition with "Digital Upgrade to PS5 Edition" and the Standard Edition with Horizon: Western Forbidden Zone PS5 and PS4?

It's also not worth mentioning that PS5 users can't buy a cheaper bundle directly from their console, as it's hidden in the PlayStation Store. Instead, they will have to pre-order from PS4 or the web.

That's a far cry from the simple upgrade path Microsoft uses, for example, having a single copy of Halo: Infinity or Forza Horizon 5 that is compatible with whether you have an Xbox One or other Xbox series consoles, and with clear pricing.
