Hokkaido, a city that lives in harmony with nature, embraces the growth of all things with its natural and pure beauty. Her beauty is the flowers of summer, the leaves of autumn, and the snow of winter, which attract people from all over the world to stop by. Designed by the GWP team, the Japanese Hokkaido Hot Spring Resort is located in NisekoCho, a town known for its ski tourism industry. According to Bookings, there are more than 300 different types of resort hotels available for tourists to book in the town. How to build a landmark resort with world-class influence with the most sincere understanding of nature, city and people under the small town of hotel holiday homes and limited construction indicators, thereby increasing the overall visibility of the project in which the hotel is located, is the challenge of the GWP team throughout the research and design process.

Her elegance and beauty are drawn from nature

Standing at the Hot Spring Resort in Hokkaido, Japan, looking north, you can see through a wilderness in the sky, and you can overlook the snow-covered snow-capped mountains in the distance. "The peaks are high and the clouds are self-disturbing, and the fog is heavy", in the early morning when the sun rises in the east, the snowy mountains are like a shy girl who gradually fades the veil wrapped in clouds, becoming the most unique scenery at the moment when the sun rises. The GWP team takes the elegant beauty of the snow mountain after the baptism of light and shadow as the source of design inspiration, forms a curved curve with the lines of the clouds and flowing water, and breaks the clouds and mist that haunt the snowy mountain between the high and low to form the dynamic appearance language of the building, leaving a visual impression on every encounterer as if living among the clouds and mountains, and becoming the artistic business card of the cultural tourism town.

Functional space conversion is carried out in a minimalist moving line in a step-by-step change

In the functional streamline layout of the hotel, the GWP team pays more attention to the flattening of the living function and the combination of spatial scale and dynamic and static partitioning. The ground floor uses open shared spaces to form the main scene of life and leisure, and the swimming line connects the living room, dining room and hot spring area. Through the luxurious floor-to-ceiling windows, people can look at the snow-capped mountains in the distance in any space. The second floor forms a connection with the three intimate suites in a small-scale open leisure space, and the second floor ascends the third floor, where the snow-capped mountains disappear into the line of sight emphasize the intimate nature of the floor. At the moment when the bedroom door is pushed open, the landscape unfolds again, forming a suddenly cheerful visual impact. The sculptural spiral staircase organizes traffic from the first to third floors, and the clean white and soft curves render a simple and exquisite modern atmosphere, allowing people to be full of ritual in the transformation of open to private space.

The material empowers the space to reproduce the beautiful experience of poetic habitat

The elements of interior design continue to use the softness and roundness of the building's exterior lines, and give the space a dynamic sense of circulation with simple and smooth lines. The log-colored wood finish and the rustic clear-water concrete material constitute the main tone in each functional space, and the natural and original texture is selected to guide people back to a quiet and simple space atmosphere. Inspired by the natural cave experience, the hot spring area is designed with concrete and hemp stone as the materials, and the horizontal construction of waves-like lines unfolds the pristine enjoyment. The electroplated glass window scenery opens the view, the natural light sprinkled into the room during the day will light up the space, and at night, with the lights on, the space under the log color is full of quiet warmth, so that people can feel the poetic beauty of the moment while obtaining physical and mental relief.

Balance the privacy of the spa experience with the openness of the landscape

Since the project is located in the base of villas and apartments, how to solve the contradiction between the user's demand for the privacy of the hot spring and the enjoyment of the open landscape line of sight is also an important consideration point in the design process. The hot spring area is laid out on the northeast side of the project, and the open kitchen is divided into closed spaces, enjoying the 270° luxurious snow-capped mountain and forest landscape. At the same time, on the slope of the base, the area of the landscape line of sight is located to the hot spring experience area, and the masonry stone and the landscape wall are used to block the line of sight, so as to achieve the effect of only hearing its sound and not seeing its people. Combined with a push-pull floor-to-ceiling window system, it creates an immersive experience in tranquil nature between opening and closing.

Her wisdom and agility come from the pursuit of high quality

The "light floating feeling" brings a pleasant feeling

The design of the overall exterior of the building fully demonstrates the team's ultimate pursuit of "light floating feeling". The façade softens the edges with a GRC slanted panel treatment, showing the dynamic trend of the overall architecture and the surrounding clouds and mist under the light carving. The spacious scale of the balcony space enhances the building's sense of volume while ensuring the comfort of the outdoor experience. The free floating feeling outlined by the contrast between grc material and floor-to-ceiling glass makes the overall image presented by the building lighter, softer and more flexible, showing the beautiful visual experience brought by the exquisite craftsmanship.

Decalbining of interior space and spatial continuity

The light floating feeling echoes with the sense of transparent and flowing space in the room, and the basic form of the structural column is compensated by artistic techniques. Due to the high utilization of indoor space, the structural columns on each floor are not in the same position, and the local structural columns fall on the beams. Through accurate structural calculation and reasonable functional layout thinking, the GWP team joined hands with the RBS team of structural experts to improve the strength and thickness of the beams and the overall increase of the total height of the building, and cleverly hide the load-bearing structure in the wall, cabinet, or placed on the outside of the wall to ensure the quality of the large-scale wide shared space and the visual transparency and smoothness, avoiding the sense of boundary division of the load-bearing cylindrical system in space. The rare pillars in the space are designed with the concept of "art sculpture", using the same material and the appearance of the building to integrate into one, beautiful and naturally faded.

Green energy saving and natural integration back to authenticity

Following the concept of harmony and symbiosis with the environment, the GWP team advocated more natural ventilation and lighting in the design, reducing the scale and running time of energy-consuming equipment such as lighting, thereby reducing the energy consumption of the building. The materials are mostly natural and environmentally friendly materials that present the warmth derived from nature, and the walls use concrete materials to make the space warm in winter and cool in summer, abandoning too much decoration in the space and restoring simplicity.
