During the Qing Dynasty, the border between Outer Mongolia and Tsarist Russia was demarcated by the Sino-Russian Treaty of Blanski in 1727 (the fifth year of Yongzheng), which affirmed that Outer Mongolia was under Chinese jurisdiction and maintained the stability of China's northern frontier. The treaty provided for the central boundary between China and Russia, from the Erguna River to the west to the Shabinai Ridge (i.e., Sabin da Baha) as the boundary, to the north to Tsarist Russia, to the south to China.
