A village, a garden story | A little sun in the mountains

"I want to be the little sun in the heart of the child, to illuminate the mountains."

This is the wish of Li Linan, a kindergarten teacher at Mijialu Kindergarten in Leqiu Township, Nanjian County, Yunnan Province, and the goal of the China Development Research Foundation's "One Village, One Garden: Mountain Village Kindergarten Program".

In order to solve the problem of the "last mile" of preschool education, in 2009, the China Development Research Foundation launched the "One Village, One Garden: Mountain Village Kindergarten Program", which provides free preschool education for children aged 3-6 in underdeveloped areas through the establishment of mountain village kindergartens at the village level.

The small changes in the children and the words of encouragement from colleagues made Li Linan, who had just come to the mountain village kindergarten and felt "overwhelmed", decide to stay and grow up with the children with Dashan.

In the "My Village, One Garden Story" essay contest, Li Linan won the first prize for "A Little Sun in the Mountains", and he wrote down the persistence and dream of the preschool teacher with warm words.

By chance, I walked into the Mi Jia Lu Kindergarten in the depths of the mountains with a nervous mood and became a temporary teacher of a rural kindergarten.

When I first arrived at Mi Jia Lu Kindergarten, everything was very different from what I imagined.

There are three-, four- and five-year-olds in every class here, some of whom have been in kindergarten for more than a year, and some of whom have just entered kindergarten. I first heard the term "mixed-age class." This kind of class is more difficult to manage, and the teaching is even more headache due to the uneven foundation of the children. My teaching methods at the county kindergarten didn't work at all. In addition, the children here are all boarding, and I am responsible for the children's eating and drinking around the clock, and even sleep with me.

I was a bit overwhelmed and had the idea of giving up. But then something happened that made me completely change my mind.

Once, Xiao hai in our class was sick, and I contacted his parents, who were working in other places and could not come and take him home. He stayed at home with his grandfather, but his phone could not be reached.

Just when I was at a loss, an old local teacher who was about to retire at the school happened to pass by and asked me if I was in trouble. I told him the situation and he said, "Xiao Li, don't worry! I know the village here, I'll help you send him home. ”

Teacher Zhang carried Xiaohai to the village, and when he returned to school, it was already more than 10 o'clock in the evening. Later, someone asked why Teacher Zhang did this that day, and Teacher Zhang said: "In our poor mountains and remote areas, it is not easy to come to a college student in the city, and we should fully support it, which is also for our hometown." ”

Teacher Zhang's words and deeds deeply touched me, and I decided to stay.

Later, with the care and help of my colleagues, I slowly adapted to the life of a rural kindergarten. And I really like to go to the village kindergarten, I have to start with the Ame in the class.

Ame is the child of a divorced family who lives with her father after her parents divorced. Her father loved to drink and lost his temper as soon as he drank. Ame, who lacked maternal love, became taciturn. At school, she was afraid to socialize with people and often hid in a corner alone. Her smile can only be seen in dance lessons.

When I found out that she liked to dance, I encouraged her and enlightened her. After a period of hard work, Ame has changed a lot. In particular, after her dance performance won the first prize in the June 1st Literary and Art Show organized by the school, Ame completely changed her personality.

I asked her what she wanted, and she said she wanted her father to quit drinking. I told her father about it, and I didn't think he really quit drinking and became more and more concerned about Ame.

At this time, I suddenly understood the value of my kindergarten in the mountain village. I don't know how long I'll be able to stay at mountain village kindergartens, but if I had the choice, I'd like to say three years, five years, ten years — or a lifetime.

I want to be the little sun in the hearts of the children in the mountains, to illuminate their young hearts, and I want the children to become the little sun in the mountains and ignite the hope of the mountains!
