Sony said that the uniqueness of this AI is that in a highly realistic simulation driving game like "GT", players need to consider the brakes, routes, speed, direction and other factors under the condition of high-speed change, as well as play with opponents, which also makes Gran Turismo Sophy more breakthrough than the AI players in previous chess projects.

Sony AI said it is exploring how to bring GT Sophy to the future of the GT series.

The findings were also featured in the journal Nature, and Professor Chris Gerdes of Stanford University, who co-authored the paper, said: "Being able to surpass outstanding human drivers in a head-on competition shows that this will be a milestone achievement in the field of AI." He believes that in the future, GT Sophy can help in the field of autonomous driving.
