Samsung Electronics maintains its leading position in the European smartphone market in 2021, but it has engaged in more fierce competition with Apple in the United States and Xiaomi in China, losing its leading position four times on the monthly sales rankings.
According to Businesskorea, data from Counterpoint Research, a market research agency, shows that Samsung Electronics maintains the top position in the European smartphone market with a market share of 32%, up 6% from the same period last year.
It was followed by Apple (26%), Xiaomi (20%), OPPO (8%), Realme (2%) and vivo (1%). Compared to 2020, Apple's market share increased by 4%, Xiaomi increased by 6%, OPPO increased by 3%, and Realme increased by 1%.
The report notes that competition among smartphone makers intensified in 2021, with the "champion of the month" replaced four times. In January 2021, Apple ranked first with a market share of 34% due to the release of the first 5G iPhone; Samsung Electronics regained the top spot in February with the newly released Galaxy S21 and maintained its leading position within a few months; but Xiaomi took the first place in June; in July, Samsung regained the first position and maintained the lead until it was replaced by Apple in November; the top of the list in December was still Apple.
