Motorola was one of the first companies to launch a foldable smartphone, but in the nearly one year or so since the Moto Razr and its 5G version came out, we haven't heard anything about the new machine. Motorola has now applied for a patent for a new folding screen phone design, which has been approved by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The patent diagram shows the exterior design of this new folding screen phone: the concept of folding outwards, rather than the inward folding design previously used by Motorola Razr.

Motorola folding screen mobile phone new patent
According to the patent application, folding phones will be equipped with a flexible display on the outside of the phone, rather than the inward folding design traditionally seen. When the outward display is folded, it means that the user will see a display on both the front and back of the phone. This may be enhanced by a few software features that bring unique features to the front and back. For example, while the front of a folded phone can serve as a traditional smartphone layout for folded sizes, the back can serve as a viewfinder for the rear camera. The hinged design will also be a completely new solution that minimizes creases and allows the phone to fold flush without any gaps.
Motorola Razr
To date, Motorola has tried to revive its iconic Moto Razr style by using an inward-folding display and Android interface. However, the lack of durability and high pricing led to the latter not achieving commercial success. While it's unclear whether Motorola will launch an extravagant smartphone, the patent concept looks interesting to say the least.
