Relatively speaking, red is a relatively rare coffin color, because it is generally used at the end of the day, and some records are that the elderly are not sick and naturally die of advanced age, and such coffins will be used. In Jiangsu in 2018, such a red lacquer coffin was dug up.
The construction team discovered the tomb
In recent years, many ancient tombs in the mainland have been found because of construction and construction transformation, in the construction process, because a lot of large instruments will be used, there will also be deep excavation, which will lead to the discovery of some ancient tombs. After the discovery of the ancient tomb, it is generally necessary to inform the relevant cultural relics department as soon as possible, so that the historical site can be more well preserved.
At the end of 2018, during the construction process in a certain area of Jiangsu, such ancient tombs were also found. Fearing that the tomb would be destroyed, the construction team immediately reported it to the local cultural relics protection agency. After the archaeologists arrived at the site, they also checked the ancient tomb, then protected the site and began to excavate the tomb.
Excavations revealed a red lacquered coffin
At the beginning of the excavation, the experts were also very cautious, and the overall progress was relatively fast. But the initial excavations disappointed the experts a little, because there were not too many valuable artifacts in it, and it seemed that the tomb belonged to a civilian tomb, and there were not many artifacts unearthed.
By the middle of the excavation, experts had a relatively significant discovery. Because a red lacquered coffin appeared in the originally unremarkable tomb, the preservation of this coffin is very complete, and there is no sign of destruction, the most shocking thing for experts is that the color of the coffin itself is still very bright, bright red.
After the experts studied, it was determined that this red lacquered coffin was a coffin from the Yuan Dynasty, with a history of more than 700 years. The discovery of this coffin also made experts have a lot of doubts in their hearts, because after so many years, the color of the coffin is still gorgeous, which is against science, so the coffin was analyzed and studied later.
X-rays revealed new discoveries
This well-preserved ancient coffin, experts care about it a lot. So I first irradiated it with an X-ray and found that there was a lot of liquid in it, and there was a female corpse. For the liquid in the coffin, experts are still more cautious, because there are precedents and records of mercury burial in ancient times, which also makes everyone especially careful when draining water.
If the coffin is forcibly opened, it is afraid that the integrity of the red lacquered coffin will be destroyed, so experts use the method of least damage to the coffin to drain the water. Two extremely small holes were punched in the bottom of the coffin, after which the liquid was discharged little by little with a diversion tube. After the liquid was discharged, an analytical test was done on the liquid and it was found that the liquid was not mercury, just water.
It also took about 2 days for the water to be completely discharged, and after the water was completely discharged, the experts opened the red lacquer coffin. In addition to the female corpse, 23 cultural relics were also found, many of which were more cherished by women before they died, including wooden combs and other items, which can be said to have a certain help in the study of Yuan Dynasty culture.
To sum up: the discovery of this Yuan Dynasty tomb has a certain degree of contingency, but the treatment of the red lacquer coffin by experts is still in place. The reason why so much water enters the red lacquered coffin is related to the tightness of the ancient coffin, so there will be some moisture seeping into the coffin. However, there are still many doubts about the well-preserved color of the coffin, and follow-up research and discoveries are still needed.
