After selling a modern car, Boston Dynamics robots finally went commercial

Boston Dynamics revealed in its latest announcement that it will deliver a fleet of Stretch robots to multiple DHL warehouses throughout North America over the next three years.

The $15 million deal with DHL is part of Boston Dynamics' strategy to accelerate digitalization. According to the company, Stretch will be deployed at a "selected DHL facility," which will initially be responsible for loading and unloading trucks. However, DHL's plans include expanding Stretch to other areas of its warehouse workflow to automate more warehouse operations.

Since separating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1992, Boston Dynamics has gone through several twists and turns, being acquired by Google in 2013 and sold to Japan's SoftBank in 2017. Now, it belongs to Hyundai Motor, which last year acquired an 80 percent stake in it from SoftBank, which retained the remaining 20 percent through an affiliate. Under the leadership of Modern Motors, Boston Dynamics Robots have finally ushered in real commercial use.
