Whether the psychology of fear has become a stumbling block in your life

Zeitkin is well known as the preeminent female activist of the international workers' movement, and she made meticulous preparations for her first speech. And carried out many pre-lectures, but as soon as he took the stage, the words to be spoken suddenly slipped away from his brain, and his brain went blank

The famous American writer Mark Twain said of his first public speech, when he seemed to have his mouth full of cotton, and his pulse was as fast as if he was sprinting for 100 meters.

British politician Louis George said that when he first tried to give a public speech, his tongue was pressed against the upper chamber of his mouth, and he could not say a word.

Someone in the United States once asked 3,090 people about the topic "What are you most afraid of?" The first point of the investigation of what people are most afraid of is that what they are most afraid of is to speak in front of everyone.

A prime minister named Desray in British history once said that he would rather lead a cavalry to charge than give a speech in the House of Commons. However, these orators have overcome defeat to become eloquents.

"Just 5 years ago, Mr. Carnegie, I came to the hotel where you held the seminar 5 years ago. I stood in the doorway, and as soon as I thought of walking in, I was going to stand on the stage to give a speech, so I hesitated again and again, and finally did not enter the venue. If only then I knew you could overcome the fear of facing people, I don't think I would hesitate to miss that opportunity, and I wouldn't be 5 years late. "

This person was not chatting with me about the past, but at a training and graduation meeting in New York City, he expressed his inner feelings to about 200 people. I was glad to hear him say this, which meant that he completely overcame the fear in his heart, and the confidence and radiance he exuded when he spoke made me believe. What he has learned this time must have enhanced his ability to handle affairs, and as his teacher, I am very happy. He had been able to overcome the fear of standing before all. At the same time, I also thought that if he had stepped into the classroom 5 years ago or even 10 years ago, he would have been happier and more confident at this time, not knowing how much he had achieved

The thinker Emerson said, "Compared with anything in the world, only fear can defeat man the most!" Because I know this, I'm glad I can help people get rid of their fears. In 1912, when I first started teaching courses, I didn't know that my training courses could help people get rid of fear and rebuild their self-confidence. Later, I gradually understood that practicing speaking in public is the best way to enhance people's courage and self-confidence, and people always unconsciously overcome their fears.

After so many years of training, I have found many ways to help you overcome the fear of facing your audience after going on stage in a short period of time, and after a few weeks of practice, you can enhance your self-confidence.

Although everyone may have the psychology of speaking timidly, the reasons for this psychology may be very different and varied. For example, some people can chat with friends and family for an hour or two; Some people talk to people on the phone for half a day, and the topic is continuous, and the more they talk, the more energetic they are; Some people can often say something that makes people laugh or interesting, which can be said to be quite talkative. But when it comes to a formal occasion, they are overwhelmed by a large group of people (or microphones for broadcasting). Why?

Whether the psychology of fear has become a stumbling block in your life

First fact: You're not the only one who's afraid to speak in public. A survey of college speech classes found that about 80 to 90 percent of students were afraid to speak on stage when they started classes. I think in my training class, at the beginning of the course, these adults had to have a fear index of about 100 percent.

The second fact: It is not without benefit that there is fear in speaking on stage. In different situations, people are born with a certain ability to adapt. So even if your breathing becomes short and your heart beats faster, you don't have to be nervous. This is the physiological state in which your body adjusts to meet the challenge. If this scale is grasped just right, then your thinking will be more sensitive than usual, your reaction will be faster, your language will be more fluent and sharp, and in general, it will be better than in ordinary situations.

Third fact: I've heard many professional speakers say that they never completely get rid of the fear of going on stage. Before each speech, they are afraid, and it is not until three or five sentences have passed that feeling that they can be eliminated. I'd rather do horse racing than pack horses. As professional speakers, they laugh at themselves for being like cold cucumbers with thick enough skin. This is also the price they must pay more than ordinary people.

Fourth fact: The main reason you don't dare speak in public is because you're not used to speaking in public. Professor Robinson's book "The Theory of Thought" says: "Fear comes from ignorance and strangeness." Most people know nothing about public speaking and are therefore afraid. Just practicing speech is more difficult than playing tennis or learning to drive, because you have to face a series of unknown situations. The only thing to do to change this situation is to practice diligently, and when you have successful experiences again and again, you can realize that speaking in public is a joy and enjoyment.

Whether the psychology of fear has become a stumbling block in your life

After reading the story of the brilliant orator and famous psychologist Albert Edward Wygel overcoming fear, I have always inspired myself with his story. He said that when he was in middle school, he was inexplicably terrified when he thought of standing up and giving a 5-minute speech, and he wrote:

As the day of the speech approached, I would get sick in fear, and at the thought of speaking on stage, the blood would rush to the door of the brain, and the two divisions would burn hard, painting Su Deji behind the school, sticking my face to the cold wall to dispel the heat caused by the tension. I also used this method in college

Once, I carefully memorized a speech that began with the words "Adams and Jeffer are dead," and when I faced the audience, there was a sudden boom in my head, and I was overwhelmed. After I barely squeezed out "Adams and Jefferjin have passed away", I couldn't say anything anymore, so I had to bow to people... Amid mocking applause, I sat down in my seat. The headmaster stood up and said, "Well, Edward, we are very sad and shocked to hear this news, but this is the end of the matter, and we can only mourn." What followed was a lot of laughter. At that time, I really wanted to die. After that speech, I was sick for several days. Of course, with that experience, the last thing I could expect in this world was to become a mass speaker.

Whether the psychology of fear has become a stumbling block in your life

A year later, Albert Wiggle was in Denver. That year, in 1896, Denver launched a political movement over the issue of "free silver coin minting." One day, he read a pamphlet, and the hollow promises of Brian and his followers made him so angry that he took a watch as a toll, returned to his native Indiana, and volunteered to speak about sound currency. Many of his old classmates in the audience were old classmates. "At first," he wrote, "the scene of the 'Adams and Jefferson' speech in college came back to my mind, the fear was about to suffocate me, the speech stuttered, and I almost escaped from the podium. But, as O'Ansi Depp often said, the audience and I barely survived the introductory part, and this small success added to my courage, and I went on. I thought I had been talking for 15 minutes, and to my surprise, I had spoken for an hour and a half. As a result, in the years that followed, I was the most astonishing person in the world, and I would make public speaking my profession, and I finally realized what William James meant by "the habit of success."

Yes, Albert Edward Wigel finally realized that the best way to overcome the overwhelming fear of speaking in public is to back it up with successful experiences.

It's natural for you to speak in public, and it's natural to have a sense of fear, and at the same time you have to learn to speak better with moderate on-stage fear.

Even if the fear of being on stage is uncontrollable, the thought is stagnant, the speech is not smooth, the muscle spasms are uncontrollable, and it seriously affects your ability to speak, you do not have to despair. You must be on the stage, if something goes wrong in the speech, you should also be as easy as before, unconsciously as soon as possible to redeem, must not be confused because of the mistake, overwhelmed. These symptoms are common among beginners, and if you put more effort into it, you will find that this fear will soon be reduced to a minimum, and it is a boost, not a resistance.

Master Jin Yan

It is natural to have a sense of fear, even a well-trained orator will have moments of fear. But you have to learn to control it moderately, and when that fear is minimized, it's a boost, not a drag.
