The IOC has announced that skateboarding will become an official permanent event starting at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Also officially included are surfing and rock climbing. "Skateboarding, rock climbing, surfing, all youth-focused sports that were successfully featured at tokyo 2020 will all be deeply rooted in California," said the IOC. ”
IOC President Bach said: "The proposal to include these sports is based on their significant contribution to the overall success of the Tokyo Olympics, their commitment to innovation, and the partnership expressed by the LA28 Organizing Committee. ”
