The innovation of modern Chinese painting began in Guangdong. Since the 20th century, Guangdong has become the center of traditional art towards modernity. In the meantime, Guangdong not only gave birth to the Lingnan School of painting that shines with Chinese culture, but also Guangdong's Chinese paintings, oil paintings, prints, and other art categories, all of which have the characteristics of the Lingnan School of "eclectic Chinese and Western", adding fresh blood to traditional Chinese art.
Guangdong artists such as Li Tiefu, He Xiangning, Gao Jianfu, Chen Shuren, Gao Qifeng, Lin Fengmian, Guan Liang, Fang Rending, Situ Qiao, Zhao Shaoang, Li Hua, Wang Zhaomin, Hu Yichuan, Li Xiongcai, Guan Shanyue, Liao Bingjie, Lai Shaoqi, Huang Xinbo, Luo Gongliu, Gu Yuan, Yang Zhiguang and other Guangdong artists have created many unforgettable works and become a landscape in the Chinese art world. Fu Baoshi and Guan Shanyue's "So Many Delicacies in Jiangshan", Yang Zhiguang's "The First Time in a Lifetime", Pan He's "Hard Years", Wang Zhaomin's "Big Leaf Ziwei", Lin Fengmian's "Lotus", Gao Jianfu's "Flames of the Eastern Battlefield", Li Tiefu's "Unfinished Old Man's Portrait" and other works have laid the status of Guangdong artists in the national art world.
In the long river of history, the people of Lingnan have flourished in this rich, beautiful and magical land, creating many important historical and cultural wealth, leaving behind unique customs and a large number of valuable cultural relics. Lingnan style is an important part of Lingnan's local characteristic culture, is thousands of years of profound cultural accumulation, has fruitful results at all cultural levels, and also gives Lingnan artists a large number of materials for depiction.
Artists either depict Lingnan products in a fresh and bright form, or freeze the scenery of Lingnan's four seasons with magnificent brushstrokes; retain urban memory with leisurely urban sculptures; or record Lingnan folk customs with delicate and warm pictures. We have selected ten masterpieces of art that reflect the customs and objects of Lingnan, which not only embody the open and inclusive characteristics of Guangzhou culture, the vivid and spiritual artistic spirit, but also the beautiful yearning of the Lingnan people for poetic life.

The watermelon in the painting is bright red at the top, the color gradually fades from top to bottom, and where the water, color and ink blend, the watermelon looks like it is covered with a layer of frost. The painter drew two lotus pieces and a small lotus tail next to the watermelon. Lotus root is white, tender and crispy, just like the new lotus flower.
Julian is known for his "hitting water, hitting powder" technique, which is particularly suitable for expressing various flowers, plants, melons and fruits under the sun and rain in Lingnan. Ju Lian is a painter with a great interest in life, who observes life in detail, his works are fresh and lively, and he has a strong local atmosphere of Lingnan.
2 Chen Shuren 《Lingnan Spring Color》

Chen Shuren's works are not only influenced by the subtle and beautiful painting style of Ju Lian, but also pay attention to the expression of rhythm, marking the brush of "qingjin" and the atmosphere of "qingqiao". Throughout his life, he loved to paint kapok, not only like its blooming momentum like "ten thousand torch candles are red", but also praised its high standard festival that soared straight into the sky. This painting depicts the majestic shape of Kapok and inscribed with the poem: "Short clothes and horses chasing the spring wind, hundreds of Mountains and Rivers taking care of the eyes of the male." Looking up from the platform of the king of the Dragon, the sound of the partridge is red in the kapok", that is, the outpouring of his heart.
3 parties set "Flower Market Lights Like Day"

"Flower Market Lights Like Day" is based on the annual Spring Festival Flower Market in Guangzhou, showing the custom of visiting the Flower Market in the New Year. The painting can be seen peach branches, moon season, roses, kumquats and other potted flowers. The picture depicts two young women who have just purchased their favorite flowers - peach branches with buds and blooming moons. The whole work is characterized by color and fine depiction, and attaches importance to the use of white, black, blue gray, light yellow, light green and lilac, and the style is elegant and fresh.
4 Fu Luofei "Guangzhou Shipyard"

At that time, the artist Fu Luofei often went to factories and rural areas near Guangzhou to sketch and create paintings related to the theme of construction and production. His "Guangzhou Shipyard" presents us with an ordinary day of workers: under the clear sky, at the edge of the clear river, everyone is working in an orderly manner. The unrestrained brushstrokes and bright colors in the works are due to the exquisite skills accumulated by the artist's travels to Europe.
Fu Luofei was a pioneer in the use of gouache painting in mainland China, and his creative practice laid the foundation for the development of lingnan's watercolor and gouache art.
5 Li Xiongcai "Luogang Xiangxue"

Working and living in Guangzhou for a long time, Li Xiongcai has a deep affection for Guangzhou, leaving behind paintings about Yangcheng such as "A Scene on the Outskirts of Guangzhou", "Luogang Xiangxue", and "Conghua Flying Rainbow Waterfall". The whole work of "Luogang Xiangxue" blooms with white plums and the aroma comes to the nose. Elder Li once explained that borrowing snow to imitate plum blossoms, adding incense characters to distinguish plum blossoms from snow. He also said: "Guangzhou is a famous historical and cultural city, a heroic city full of heroes, but also a beautiful tourist city, artists should write more, paint more, perform more, sing more, cheer for the flower city." ”
6 Lin Hongji "Backgammon"

Golden rice, reflected on the face of the peasant woman, a golden smile. In this square composition, where horizontal, straight and diagonal lines are intertwined, the artist vividly depicts the joy of the farmers in lingnan. This scene is just like the feeling given by the famous Cantonese song "Backgammon": light and exciting, increasing layer by layer, full of vitality and inspiration.
7 Chen Yulian 《Flower Diagram》

The Cantonese word for "red peach" and "hongtu" are harmonious, and the branches stretch when the peach blossoms are in full bloom, implying "great development of the grand plan". "Peach blossoms for the Spring Festival" is one of guangzhou's New Year folk customs. Artist Chen Yulian's "Flower Story Map" focuses on the hard work of flower farmers and flower breeders. She wrote in the inscription: "I often write that I was born under the flowers of the countryside, and I am touched by the sweat and hard work behind the prosperity. ”
8 He Jianning 《Impressions of Guangzhou Metro》

Artist He Jianning is good at using colors and brushes to record what you see in front of you, express the emotional world, and construct a picture of life. Construction of the Guangzhou Metro officially began in 1993, and He Jianning's painting was created in 1994. The artist uses his own language to document the critical moment when the Guangzhou Metro went from an idea to a reality.
9 Chen Jinzhang 《Pearl River Spring Dawn》

In order to create this work, Chen Jinzhang carefully observed all the red cotton that could be seen in Guangzhou. He found that the red cotton was not only tall like a hero, but also had a very beautiful image. In the early spring, the southern country is full of vitality, and the paintings celebrate Guangzhou's inclusive, enterprising and upward urban temperament.
10 five sheep stone carvings

Wuyang Stone Carving, one of the representatives of Guangzhou's urban image, is located in Yuexiu Park and is made of more than 130 granite carvings. This is the famous sculptor Yin Jichang and others based on the legend of the five sheep, the five stone sheep have different looks, the sculptor exerts his superior imagination, ingenuity. The Wuyang stone carving created by historical legends is known as the emblem of Guangzhou, which adds a lot of color to the historical and cultural city.
