A few days ago, Lingnan Fine Arts Publishing House's series of manuscripts of modern and contemporary Chinese masters put on the shelves a new work - "Hong Kuo Collection - Liang Shixiong Manuscript", which is the first large-scale collection of manuscripts of Mr. Liang Shixiong, a famous landscape painter of the contemporary Lingnan School, in order to be able to present Mr. Liang's rich artistic exploration process in a more comprehensive way.

Liang Shixiong, born in 1933, is a native of Nanhai, Guangdong. Professor and master tutor of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, former director of the Department of Chinese Painting, director of the Lingnan School of Painting Research Office, vice chairman of the Lingnan School of Painting Memorial Hall, former executive director of the Guangdong Provincial Artists Association, librarian and expert group member of the Guangdong Provincial Government Research Museum of Literature and History, researcher of the Calligraphy and Painting Institute of the Central Research Museum of Literature and History, consultant of the Calligraphy and Painting Institute of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, consultant of the Guangdong International Cultural Exchange Center, and member of the China Artists Association. Mr. Liang studied under the lingnan school masters Guan Shanyue and Li Xiongcai, is a representative of the contemporary Lingnan school, an important artist in the history of new Chinese art, and has made important contributions in the two major fields of art creation and art education.
According to reports, at present, Mr. Liang Shixiong has preserved nearly 100 complete sketchbooks, as well as a number of sketch albums and scattered pages. According to rough statistics, more than 4,000 manuscripts have been recorded, spanning from the 1950s to the present. A very small number of these manuscripts have been included in relevant albums, and a very small number have been publicly displayed, but the vast majority of manuscripts are still submerged in public view. The publication of this collection of manuscripts can give the art community a deeper understanding of Liang Shixiong's artistic creation.
Mr. Liang Jiang once commented on Liang Shixiong's consistent artistic spirit under the title of "Liang Shixiong: Highlighting the Artistic Spirit of the Lingnan Painting Scene in a Respectable Way", and the Lingnan Chinese Painting Teaching System was jointly constructed by Guan Shanyue, Li Xiongcai, Yang Zhiguang and Liang Shixiong. Mr. Liang Shixiong is a master of Mr. Guan Shanyue and Mr. Li Xiongcai, and is one of the key figures in contemporary Lingnan painting. He is not only the earlier generation of college students trained in New China, but also the earlier generation of college art teachers who grew up in New China. His manuscripts are rich in content and record the resume process of his personal artistic life in detail, and these manuscripts have been preserved intact, which is of positive and important significance for the study of new Chinese art education and the development of contemporary Lingnan art.
Mr. Liang Shixiong traveled to the motherland and the rest of the world, not only creating a large number of excellent compositions, but also leaving a large number of manuscripts. In this collection of manuscripts, we see that Mr. Liang has paid great attention to the natural scenery and scenery, and we have seen many huge original sketches, which are the flowing thoughts of the painter repeatedly deliberated in the process of carefully conceiving one work after another.
Mr. Liang's manuscripts cover a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, flowers, birds, and figures, as well as materials, sketches and notes for thematic creations. This manuscript takes the sketching location and material type as the editorial idea, and divides the manuscript collection into two chapters, the first part highlights the achievements of Mr. Liang in his artistic creation career, and divides it into three parts: sketching in Guangdong Province, domestic sketching, and extraterritorial sketching; the second part includes four parts: Yunshui tree stone, flower feathers, production and construction, and sketches, highlighting his exploration and research on certain thematic types in the process of painting creation, which is also the characteristic of his artistic creation. At the same time, the completed creative works are accompanied by Mr. Wang's artistic experience or notes to benefit the reader's in-depth understanding.
