Heavy! Shanxi has won three national top ten new archaeological discoveries in 5 years

"The Temperature of Archaeology" Shanxi "13th Five-Year Plan" Archaeological Achievements Exhibition, launched on January 29 at the Shanxi Archaeological Museum. On the 28th, the Shanxi Provincial Archaeological Research Institute released the "13th Five-Year Plan" archaeological harvest of our province, from 2016 to 2020, Shanxi Province promoted a total of 228 field excavations, revealing an area of 214,000 square meters, and obtaining 3 of the top ten new archaeological discoveries in the country.

During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, Shanxi's field archaeology intensified, focusing on systematic archaeological excavation, scientific and technological protection, collation research, interpretation and public education, and played an important role in promoting the "shaping of Shanxi's beautiful image and realizing the revitalization and rise of Shanxi". In the past five years, archaeological discoveries have emerged in an endless stream, research results have emerged, scientific and technological archaeological methods have become more complete, and public archaeology has been continuously innovated. Among them, the archaeological excavation project of the Songjin porcelain kiln site in Hejingu Town won the top ten new archaeological discoveries in the country in 2016; the archaeological excavation project of the Shang Dynasty cemetery of Wenxi Jiuwu was awarded the top ten new archaeological discoveries in the country in 2018; and the site of Xiwubi in Daixian County was awarded the top ten new archaeological discoveries in the country in 2019.

Focusing on a series of major topics such as "Comprehensive Research on the Origin and Early Development of Chinese Civilization", "Xia Culture Research", "Research on the Process of Civilization in the Central Plains", "Colonization and Society In hetao Region", "Research on the Status and Role of Jinnan in the Process of Chinese Civilization" and "Research on Yungang Studies", the archaeological work in our province has enhanced the scientific and academic nature of excavations. Progress has been made in archaeological investigation, excavation and research at important sites such as Xiangfen Tao Temple, Xia county dongxiafeng, Yicheng Beizhuo, Xingxian Bicun, Ruicheng Potou, Qinshui Baliping, Yuanqu North White Goose, Wenxi Shangguo, and Yungang Grottoes.

Completed 184 archaeological excavations involving capital construction, such as the Taijiao high-speed railway, the Menghua railway, and the three major plates of tourist highways, revealing an area of more than 160,000 square meters, providing strong support for the smooth progress of major local capital construction projects.

Scientific and technological archaeology exerted its strength to complete the protection and restoration of more than 3,000 bronzes, bone horns, jade and ceramics, and 12 on-site cultural relics protection. In the laboratory archaeology, in cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and other scientific research institutes, the indoor archaeology of the Western Han Tomb of Yuelongtai in Taiyuan Dongshan was completed, and the archaeology and on-site cultural relics protection of the tomb of the Ming Dynasty King of Taiyuan Dongshan were completed.

In the Paleolithic archaeology, Neolithic archaeology, Xia Shang Zhou archaeology, Qin Han to Ming and Qing archaeology, our province has achieved important results. A series of archaeological excavation reports and books such as "Jinyang Ancient City No. 1 Building Base Site", "Qingliang Temple Prehistoric Cemetery", "New Daixiaoling Pottery Kiln Site" and so on were published, "Qingliang Temple Prehistoric Cemetery" won the 2016 National Cultural Heritage Top Ten Books, and "Shanxi Province Ming Great Wall Resource Survey Report" won the 2019 National Cultural Heritage Excellent Books.
